Our Teachers
Hi! My name is Miriam and I am the director of Miriam’s Family Childcare. I have been running my program for 22 years. I am a mother of three children and I was inspired to start my program when my children were young. I enjoy serving my community and watching students grow!
Philosophy
At Miriam’s Family Wonderschool we strive to create an environment where children are able to learn, develop and be themselves. We focus on cognitive and linguistic learning, as well as focus on letting the children learn through play. We are a Spanish immersion program. Research shows that exposing children to numerous languages enhances cognitive development as well as school performance and engagement. We provide each child with a wide variety of experiences necessary to learn and develop according to their age. We know that every child is different and special and focus on developing the best way for each individual children to learn and grow. I hope to create a home away from home for each child and provide an environment where they can thrive to the best of their potential.
Location
Miriam Family Wonderschool is located in a single family home in the Mission District of San Francisco. The entire space is transformed into multiple learning areas for students. There are two smaller rooms that combine to make the large space. The larger space acts as a classroom for daily circle time and the other room is home to free play. This includes dramatic play, a science area and reading corner.
About our program
Spanish Immersion Benefits: Daily circle time is held in Spanish. This gives students the chance to be immersed in the Spanish language. We also incorporate components of the Spanish culture in our daily activities. The goal is to expose young learners to a new language they can become proficient in and use later in life. Regardless of whether a program is bilingual or immersion, there is rarely any direct language instruction in the preschool years. If language learning is important to you, just make sure it’s part of a program that also prioritizes strong social emotional learning and play-based features like those above.
Play- Based Program: Children are given the opportunities to self-select their learning interests. Our environment is intentionally set up to encourage individual exploration. We have dramatic play which includes dress-up and block area. We also have daily arts and crafts, music and a reading corner.
School Readiness - academic/social-emotional: For our preschool aged students, we incorporate school readiness activities including colors, numbers and ABCs. However, above all we believe that social-emotional development is an essential key to future success and we pride ourselves in our ability to support students.
