Our Teachers

Joelle Kenyatta - Director and Head Teacher

Hi, I’m Joelle, founder of JoJo’s Wonderschool Playhouse! Since I was young, I have always wanted to work with kids and originally thought of being a pediatrician. I received my BA in Psychology with a focus on child development and have continued to take classes in early childhood education.

Despite growing up as an only child, I spent a lot of time with my extended family and often cared for my younger cousins. I am also a mother to two little boys (aged 3 & 7).I have always wanted to start a family business with my mom, who has been a strong support system in helping me raise my own family. Previously I worked in a center and in home child care and have always dreamed of starting my own program.

I started my own program in order to have the ability to serve each infant individually and give them the kind of care and attention they deserve. I enjoy being hands on and ensuring the children in my program are exposed to skills that will ensure them for success as they age.

Joelle does great work. I don't know what we'd have done if we hadn't found her.

Philosophy

At Joelle’s Wonderschool, we provide a quality childcare experience in a comfortable, familiar, welcoming setting. Our program focuses on the belief that children grow, learn, and thrive by exploring the world around them. It is our goal to provide an environment that helps each child to feel confident and capable.

In our program, children will feel empowered to follow their own interests in a safe space. We encourage children to play directed and non-directed by encouraging your child to plan and think about their actions. Through both group and individual activities, your child is encouraged to develop socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically at his or her own rate.

Location

Joelle’s Wonderschool is located in a bright, welcoming apartment in the Downtown San Francisco neighborhood right in the heart of the cities business district.

We’ve designed our environment specifically for infants with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include music and movement area (for physical activity and cultural learning), manipulatives and math area (for fine motor skills and beginning math concepts), and art area (for expressing emotions and ideas).

Children will have plenty of outdoor time everyday in the spacious private outdoor area offered in our secure building. Connecting with nature is vital to a child’s happiness and growth and therefore it is essential that we spend time outside every day.

At Joelle’s Wonderschool, I want to provide a loving home away from home where infants are cared for and encouraged to grow.

About our program

We use a play based philosophy with lots of water, art, and music activities to engage the children. We help infants learn basic sign language to communicate their needs and build language development. We also encourage independence and freedom in our space.

Our environment is fun, exciting, playful and loving. We like to use sensory-rich activities to help your child explore, roll over, pull up and crawl. We also believe that one-on-one interactions are essential to building nurturing relationships in everyday moments.
