Our Teachers
Hello! I’m Jovannya and I’ve been running my own child care program for 10 years. In total, I have 23 years of experience working with young children. I have 40 units of Early Childhood credits and continue to do professional development, for example, in DRDP, QRS, and CLASS. I have two wonderful kids of my own.
Working with children is my passion. One of my favorite moments with families is getting to present a “Story of You” book with photos and memories when each kid leaves our program. I can’t wait to welcome you and your family to your child’s new “second home”!
My mother, Luz de Maria, also works with me. She has 50 years of experience and two children of her own. The kids love her and she loves teaching and caring for them.
PLEASE NOTE that I speak limited English and parent communication is mostly in Spanish. Wonderschool and a family friend help us interpret as needed.

Location
Guarderia Pasitos Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, single family home in the Outer Mission neighborhood with a beautiful and large backyard.
We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), nature area (for discovering nature and science concepts), and sensory area (for spatial awareness and learning through the five senses). We have an area just for infants, too.
Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard or outdoor space. Children need space to run, jump, and move!
At Guarderia Pasitos Wonderschool, we provide an enriching environment where children are free to explore and play.

About our program
Our program is based on a routine to help the children feel safe and relaxed and know what to expect out of each day. However, we are still flexible and introduce new materials or activities to stimulate curiosity and wonder.
A typical day starts out with breakfast, then we play and have circle time, where we talk about the weekly theme (e.g. “Our bodies” or “The Five Senses”). We have free play then outdoor time for an hour and a half. We regularly talk about nature and how to care for the earth, including recycling materials throughout the day.
Music is a foundational part of our program. We sing during every transition. For example, we sing songs while cleaning toys, washing hands, and walking outside.
We have a friendly, fuzzy pet hamster named Penelope in our home who makes an appearance sometimes as our class pet.
Meals and nutrition
Providing fresh and nutritious meals is important to us. We believe we are what we eat and kids need balanced diets to grow well! We serve balanced, homemade food daily with no sweets and no juices. Some food items on our menu include chicken soup, beef, lentils, fruits, milk, and grains. For a mid-morning snack, the kids might have an orange and spinach shake or strawberry banana shake. We also love to cook together and the kids might make their own pizza or bread.
Parent communication
We love checking in with parents in the morning and asking how children are doing at home. We also share updates with parents at the end of the day so they can hear about their child’s progress. We have more formal parent conferences twice a year. Our goal is for Pasitos to feel like a second home. At the same time, it’s important to us to respect that each child has their own individual learning style and rhythm. For this reason, we do not compare children but instead respect each child’s journey.
Discipline
We support the kids in working through any conflicts. We encourage listening to one another and apologizing if needed.
