Our Teachers
Hello! I am Jessica , the founder of Agueda’s Daycare #1 Wonderschool. I was inspired to start my own program by my mother who has run a childcare program for most of her life–I inherited my love of working with children from her.
Previously I was a teacher at The Land’s End School. I have 7 years of experience working with young children, including raising my newborn son who is currently enrolled in my program.
Achievements
Philosophy
At Agueda’s Daycare #1 Wonderschool, we believe that children grow, learn, and thrive by exploring the world around them. It is our goal to provide an environment that makes children feel welcomed and at home. In our program, children will feel empowered to follow their own interests in a safe space.
Location
Agueda’s Daycare #1 Wonderschool is located in a bright, welcoming single family home in the Ingleside neighborhood.
We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite), and art area (for expressing emotions and ideas).
Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard or outdoor space. Children need space to run, jump, and move!
At Agueda’s Daycare #1 Wonderschool, I want to provide an environment that supports the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of each child while teaching them to enjoy exploring their surroundings.
About our program
We follow a play-based philosophy. We believe that children learn social, cognitive, and emotional skills by exploring new experiences. We prepare our environment to be responsive to the children in our care, and allow children’s own interests to help facilitate their learning and engagement.
Play-based learning helps a child develop holistically through social-emotional learning, developing confidence and motivation, and practicing cognitive skills. In play-based learning, children choose their own activities for the day. Play itself is a voluntary, unstructured and enjoyable activity with no purpose or end goal. Play-based activities lay the foundation for a child to become a curious and excited learner later in life. Through activities like make-believe, interacting with blocks, and creating art, children develop social skills, motivation to learn, and even language and numeracy skills. Taking initiative, focused attention, and curiosity about the world are all a part of play.
We are a bilingual program that teaches in both Spanish and English. Learning a second language from a young age helps your child’s cognitive development and will jump start their language skills.
