Our Teachers

Meet Your Providers: Alex & Nice With a shared passion for early childhood education, Alex and Nice bring warmth, professionalism, and years of experience to every child in their care. Both are CPR and First Aid certified, fully immunized, and have passed comprehensive background checks.

We are seasoned educators with extensive knowledge in child development and a deep commitment to nurturing the whole child—emotionally, socially, physically, and cognitively. Bilingual in English and Portuguese, we create a rich, multicultural environment where children feel safe, respected, and inspired to grow.

Our backgrounds include early childhood education coursework, classroom and in-home daycare experience, and a strong foundation in play-based, child-led learning approaches. At our core, we believe in supporting each child’s unique rhythm and potential through meaningful connections, developmentally appropriate practices, and joyful daily routines.

Philosophy

At The Yoyo House, we believe that to educate is to care — that children learn when their emotions, desires, and needs are fully respected. Our daily practice is grounded in:

Play, both free and guided, as the child’s primary language.

Caring and respectful interactions that nurture emotional security.

Rich, prepared environments that inspire curiosity and discovery.

Positive, meaningful relationships that build trust and belonging.

Multiculturalism and diversity. We also integrate the Portuguese language into daily experiences.

Partnership with families, maintaining close, transparent, and collaborative communication.

Location

Our program is located on East Appleton Street in the heart of Clairemont (92117), a calm and residential area known for its welcoming community and central access to all that San Diego has to offer. Families appreciate the quiet charm of our street, where children can arrive and leave safely each day, away from the noise and bustle of commercial zones.

We are just minutes away from Lindbergh Neighborhood Park, a wonderful green space where children can enjoy nature walks and open-air play. The Clairemont Town Square is also nearby, offering access to public libraries, family-friendly cafés, and essential services.

Several highly regarded elementary schools—such as Toler Elementary and Hawthorne Elementary—are within a short drive, supporting a smooth transition when the time comes. For commuting families, our location offers easy access to I-5 and I-805, and is also serviced by convenient bus routes connecting to the wider San Diego area.

This balance between residential tranquility and urban accessibility makes East Appleton Street an ideal setting for a nurturing, high-quality early childhood program.

About our program

Not a daycare. A story you will tell forever…

We believe in the whole child. With body, mind, heart, and soul. A child who plays, imagines, and wonders. A child who expresses feelings, explores the world, and builds relationships. A child who deserves to be seen, heard, and valued.

At The Yoyo House, we care, educate, and grow — together — because every child is unique, powerful, and capable.

Admissions

Enrollment Process Our enrollment process is designed to ensure a smooth transition for your family while maintaining a high-quality and safe environment for all children in our care. Below are the steps to secure your child’s spot:

Schedule a Visit We encourage all prospective families to visit The Yoyo House Daycare before enrolling. This is an opportunity to:

Tour our space and observe our daily activities.

Meet our caregivers and ask any questions.

Discuss your child’s needs and expectations.

Understand our philosophy and policies.

Visits are scheduled by appointment only. The tours are in person, but must be booked online.

We require the child to be present at the tour, so they can become familiar with the environment.

We do not offer tours for grown ups without a child.

Immunization Records If you decide to enroll your child, the next step is to provide a copy of the child’s immunization records.

To comply with California state regulations (Title 22) and ensure a healthy environment for all children, your child must be up-to-date with his/her immunizations before their first day of attendance.

Parents must submit a current vaccination record per California’s School Immunization Law (Health and Safety Code Sections 120325-120375).

Immunization records must be updated regularly to remain enrolled.

Only medical exemptions signed by a licensed physician will be accepted.

Enrollment Fee & Deposit Once immunization records are clear, in order to secure your child’s spot, the following payments are required:

Enrollment Fee: A one-time, non-refundable fee of $125 per child.

Deposit: A deposit equivalent to one month’s tuition is required to hold the spot for up to one month before the start date.

If your child starts within a month, the deposit will be applied toward the last month’s tuition, whenever it happens.

If the child does not start within a month, regular monthly payments are required.

If you decide not to enroll, the deposit is non-refundable.

We are not able to hold a spot for longer than 30 days.

Complete Paperwork Before your child’s first day, you must complete and submit all required forms:

Childcare Agreement – Outlining services, policies, tuition and, calendar.

Emergency Contact Form (LIC 700) – Listing authorized pick-up persons and emergency contacts.

Consent for Emergency Medical Treatment (LIC 627) – Authorizing medical attention if needed.

Parent Notification Forms (LIC 995A & LIC 9150) – Acknowledging state-mandated disclosures.

Infant Sleep Plan (if applicable, LIC 9227) – For children under 12 months.

Food Allergy & Special Needs Forms (if applicable).

These forms ensure compliance with California licensing laws and help us provide the best care for your child

Start Date & Trial Period Once all steps are completed, your child’s start date will be scheduled. The first 30 days of enrollment serve as a trial period to ensure a smooth transition.

If for any reason The Yoyo House Daycare or the family determines that the placement is not a good fit within this period, the contract may be terminated without further obligation.

If the child continues beyond the trial period, the deposit will be applied to the last month’s tuition with proper notice of withdrawal.
