Our Teachers

Hello! I am Cecilia, the owner of Mariposas Spanish Immersion Daycare. I was inspired to start my program because I wanted to have a positive impact on the lives of young children. With my patience and love, I believe I can contribute to the well-being and growth of every child.

Dual language learning is important to me. Spanish is the most spoken foreign language in the United States; the number of Spanish speakers in the country is estimated to exceed 40 million in the next decade. Spanish is the most widely taught foreign language in secondary schools and universities, and ranks second to English in all but seven states. I believe that learning a second language helps a child’s intellectual and social development.

I am also the proud mom of two sons (16 and 7 years old), and I have been the proud foster mom of a 3-month-old baby. Child care has been my lifelong passion, and I have been providing loving care for children since I was a teenager.

Philosophy

Our mission at Mariposas Spanish Immersion Daycare is to provide the highest quality of care and education for young children in both English and Spanish. We provide a safe and nurturing environment rich in learning experiences and opportunities for every child. Our role is to encourage and support each child in all areas of development, to create a positive self-image and opportunity for success.

The early childhood years are the best for a child to learn a different language. The more they are exposed to a different language, the more likely they will retain it and become fluent. This can create more career opportunities for your child as they transition into young adults. We would love to help your child learn and retain their Spanish.

It is very important to us to have a clean, safe environment. We have an abundance of hands-on activities and a lot of outside playtime. We also offer a nutritional daily menu.

Location

Mariposas Spanish Immersion Daycare is located in a inviting, cozy single family home in the Sylvan Park neighborhood.

We’ve carefully designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite), art area (for expressing emotions and ideas), and music and movement area (for physical activity and cultural learning).

Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard or outdoor space. Connecting with nature is vital to a child’s happiness and growth.

At Mariposas Spanish Immersion Daycare, I want to provide an environment that supports the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of each child.

About our program

I have been working with Firstfive of California and now I am a Quality Seeds provider. I have implemented their SEEDS program in my daycare. The acronym SEEDS stands for (Sensitivity, Encouragement, Education, Development through Doing and Self-Image). The SEEDS curriculum integrates meaningful literacy-focused interactions with children through out the day. This program is a relationship based professional development strategy for family child care providers to develop language-rich environments for the children in their care.

My program is about 95% in Spanish and 5% English for translating as well as learning the basics such as the alphabets and numbers. I have incorporated Spanish songs, dancing, reading, arts and crafts, coloring, kids yoga and free play. In addition, we also do daily syllables with all the children’s first and last names.

All children practice their names in their own notebooks and we also do journaling in the mornings. All children sign in for the day on the white board next to their photo. All my daycare kids with the exception of the youngest ones know their alphabets, numbers (1-20), all colors, all body parts, many of the flash cards and clothing names all in Spanish. As well as their full names, their parents full names and where they live. In addition, I also teach them the days of the week and months of the year in Spanish.

Outside play is very important to me. I have allocated 1hour to 1.5hours a day for outside play.
