Our Teachers

Hello! I am Chinwe Aka, the founder of Kevin-Kennedy Child Care Wonderschool. As a mother of four children, I was inspired to start my own program because I saw a need for high-quality care in my community. I have 11 years of experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged kids.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2008 from Cal State LA with additional certifications from my specialization in infant care. I also earned an Associate’s Degree in Human Development. I love learning and gaining as much education and experience as I can to provide the highest quality care.

After I got my Bachelor’s degree, I worked as a substitute teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). In 2014, I became a full-time teacher at Dolores Street Early Education Center and taught my own class of preschoolers for five years. Some of my favorite parts of being a preschool teacher included circle time, arts & crafts activities, and hands-on learning projects. I enjoyed being able to prepare my students for success in their later years.

I decided to open my own in-home child care program because I love children and truly care for them. I want to make a difference in their lives and in my community. As a mother, my goal has always been to encourage, nurture and protect children of all ages. I am proud to have raised kids who are smart, kind and ambitious. My 19-year-old daughter is currently studying Accounting at UCLA while my 17-year- old daughter, a senior in high school, is an aspiring entrepreneur. My 16-year-old son wants to be a doctor and my 14-year-old boy wants to be a lawyer. I guided my kids throughout their childhood with attention, love and support so that they were encouraged to dream big and have positive self-esteem.

I look forward to working with you to create a brighter future for our children and community.

Philosophy

At Kevin-Kennedy Child Care Wonderschool, my mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and developmentally-appropriate learning environment in conjunction with a quality educational curriculum that assists the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of all children.

Location

Kevin-Kennedy Child Care Wonderschool is located in a clean, beautiful single family home in the Hyde Park neighborhood. It is walking-distance to Hyde Park Branch Library as well as several churches and schools.

Children will have plenty of time outdoors every day in my spacious backyard where they can play with our slides, tricycles, wagon, basketball and more. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Kevin-Kennedy Child Care Wonderschool, I want to provide a loving home away from home.

About our program

My play-based program also features:

  • Daily home-cooked, nutritious meals: Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies. I have learned diverse recipes that I enjoy cooking for the children in my program. I want all children here to have warm and healthy food every day.

  • The Creative Curriculum: The Creative Curriculum believes that young children learn best through performance. The Creative Curriculum is based on young children investigating and exploring their environment which helps in their learning. For example, there is an activity that focuses on building a house. In this activity, the children use shapes to construct a stable home. They learn critical thinking while tapping into their creative side. As they attempt to build their house, they encounter real world problems, which require them to come up with real-world solutions. Ultimately, the Creative Curriculum helps children to get more involved in their learning.

  • Weekly lesson plans: There are also activities where the parents can participate with the children. I will be doing a weekly lesson plan and the activities will be based on the theme of the lesson plan for the week. We believe that parents and providers must work together to support children in reaching key educational and developmental milestones.
