Our Teachers

Hello! I am Martha Flores, the founder of Flores Family Child Care Wonderschool. I have 6 years of experience working with young children, as well as 31 Early Childhood Education units, and a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit.

I have always loved working with children. When I was growing up in El Salvador, my father inspired me to become a teacher. Even though he had only finished the equivalent of 4th grade, he realized many of our neighbors could not read and decided to teach a weekly reading group from our home. This made an impression on me and led me to pursue a career as a primary school teacher in El Salvador.

When I moved to the US and had my daughter, I was inspired to go back to school and earn my GED so I could learn English and better support my daughter in her studies. Now I’m proud to say my daughter has a scholarship to UCLA and will be graduating next year!

I’m thrilled to share my program with you, and I can’t wait to meet your family!

My 2yr old loves going to daycare. Marta organizes lots of activities for the kids. My son struggled with detachment from me at first but Marta was very patient and caring that he now loves it.

Testimonials

“I was so frightened when I took the decisions to go to work after 3 months just after  my second child’s birth. But this is one of the best parental decisions we’ve made for our little one. We LOVE Flores Family child care for endless reasons: excellent learning environment, safe, CLEAN and affordable Ruth Flores cares for my 1 year old since she was 3 months old. Ruth is great, she has a very professional family business and all meals are super healthy and home cooked. When my 5 year old girl is out of school, Ruth also cares for her, she does tons of interactive activities and experiments. Ruth really helps me with re-enforcing her academic curriculum.” - Luisa

Philosophy

At Flores Family Child Care Wonderschool, we believe the children are our future. Each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. We aim to help them discover who they are and become self-sufficient, confident learners who cultivate and express their own ideas and opinions.

Our values:

  • Child-centered learning: We let the children lead the way. Our role as teachers is to give children the tools with which to cultivate their own gardens of knowledge. Our curriculum is based on the children’s interests. We incorporate active learning through themes, group work, and hands-on activities all guided by the children’s interests.
  • Celebrating and respecting differences: We teach to the needs of each child so all learners can feel capable and successful. We have a vision of a world where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences between us. These differences are what make life so fascinating.
  • Empowerment: We show the children all the beauty they possess inside and give them a sense of pride.
  • Lifelong learning: As teachers, we are always learning not only new philosophies and strategies within the Early Education field, but we also learn from parents, colleagues, and especially from the children themselves.

Location

Flores Family Child Care Wonderschool is located in a sunny, spacious single family home in the Filipinotown neighborhood.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), art area (for expressing emotions and ideas), and music and movement area (for physical activity and cultural learning).

Children have some outdoor time every day in our spacious backyard. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Flores Family Child Care Wonderschool, we want to provide an environment that supports the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of each child.
