Phyllis Anka, Owner and Head Teacher
Phyllis’ skills, knowledge, and expertise come from a combination of her personal parenting philosophy, her business experience as an executive with Motherhood Maternity, and her position as the owner of a childcare facility for almost 3 decades. She applied her parenting philosophy and child development skills to raising her four children, and evaluated them with her grandchildren, giving her insight and knowledge regarding long term results.
As Vice President of Stores for Motherhood Maternity, a national retailer, Phyllis was responsible for educating personnel. She developed both operations and sales programs that measurably improved the skills and performance of the staff. As the Head of Marketing, Phyllis and her team conducted ongoing, extensive market research with parents and expectant parents that provided insight and direction for their Motherhood publication featuring information, resources and advice on prenatal care and child development. In this capacity, she was selected for “Who’s Who Worldwide of Global Business Leaders”.
Based on her philosophy that children are incredibly intelligent as well as her expertise with parents and children, Phyllis decided to open Phyllis Anka Family Childcare and Preschool. The program has a wait-list for enrollment after almost 3 decades of success.
The advantage and responsibility of caring for children in a “living” environment is the ideal combination of implementing, practicing, teaching, coaching, observing, counseling, and validating Phyllis’ knowledge and skills with hundreds of parents and children.

Testimonials
Our son has been attending Phyllis Anka Family Daycare for about a year (he turned 2 in July) and he loves it and we love it too. Phyllis is licensed for 12 and she was full until recently when most of the kids graduated to kindergarten. Many of them had been there for years and all had the best things to say about their experience. Hours are 8-5:30/6. Phyllis has a great clean space and amazing support working with her. She cooks nutritious meals and the kids love her. I know she has some availability. I would recommend her to anyone looking in the area.
Philosophy
We believe that all children are incredibly intelligent from the moment they are born. When a child is respected, understood, and cared for by loving, highly-skilled communicators with relationship- and development-related expertise, it is amazing what a child can accomplish. In fact, each child will achieve their maximum potential. All of this and more can be read on our Facebook page SmartParentSmartChild and in our guidelines handbook Smart Parent Smart Child for purchase on Amazon or email at [email protected]
We advise each parent/guardian of the individual growth of their child in terms of their age-related development stages: social, communication, language, mathematics and reading skills as well as general knowledge. We offer foods that support a well-balanced diet with special care to emphasize natural, healthy products.
Location
We are located in a home in Silver Lake/Elysian Heights. We have a large indoor classroom as well as an outdoor playground. Easy access from the street. Close to all freeways.
