Our Teachers

Hello! I am Alex McDuffy, the founder of McDuffy’s Family Child Care and Wonderschool. Historically, we have provided care for friends and family without a license, and had no intension of becoming licensed.  Many of our own children’s classmates from school, had parents working from 9-5.  So, many of their friends would come home with us to complete their homework.  As the word spread regarding our “afterschool program”, families suggested we become and licensed daycare.  We took their advice, and are now caring for kids full time, and have been licensed for over 10 years now.

Philosophy

We at, McDuffy’s Family Child Care believe that our program and services offer developmentally appropriate curriculum and we strive to enhance social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth in young children. Our program fosters curiosity, creativity and self-esteem by taking into account children’s abilities and interests. We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite), sensory area (for spatial awareness and learning through the five senses), and music and movement area (for physical activity and cultural learning). I want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play. Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard. Connecting with nature is vital to a child’s happiness and growth.

Child initiated and teacher supported play is an essential component of our program.  We recognize that young children have many ways through which they can express themselves, and that we, as educators, must tap into those ways and engage the children in their learning.
