Our Teachers

Hello! I am Claire Scribner, the founder of Slanted & Enchanted Preschool. I have 15 years of experience working with preschoolers. I’ve taught in home-based programs, private centers, and public preschools and I am also a parent. I’ve taken my favorite parts from each of the educational settings in which I’ve taught and designed this program, Slanted & Enchanted Preschool, to be the best of all worlds!

Philosophy

At Slanted & Enchanted Preschool, we believe that children grow, learn, and thrive by feeling safe, loved, and nurtured. In our program, children will feel empowered to follow their own interests in a safe space. Our program provides a bridge between the world of early childhood and kindergarten by balancing emergent math and reading activities with the social and emotional focus that should be the heart of every preschool program. We aim to meet children and families where they are at so that school and home become partners in the dance of growing and learning.

We value age based learning and as such utilize a cohort model. A cohort as we define it, is a small group of children who learn in community based on age, shared interests and most importantly shared goals. Children benefit from the natural scaffolding that happens when slightly more advanced peers model behavior and learning.

Location

Slanted & Enchanted Preschool is located in a beautiful, spacious single family home in downtown Benicia.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include art area (for expressing emotions and ideas), sensory area (for spatial awareness and learning through the five senses), and reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite).

Children will have some outdoor time everyday at mix of both my private yard and local parks and playgrounds. Children need space to run, jump, and move! Our downtown location is ideal for walking field trips to the park and local library.

At Slanted & Enchanted Preschool, I want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.

Come see what makes Slanted & Enchanted Preschool unique. If we are currently hosting tours, you can request or schedule a tour at the top of this page. If we are not currently hosting tours, you’ll see a “Request Info” button at the top of this page; if you submit your information using this button, we will notify you when we start host tours again in the future.

3. Submit an Enrollment Application

If you would like to enroll, please submit an application. Please note that we require tours for all prospective families. Please do not submit an application if you have not visited the program.

4. Enroll

After reviewing your application, we’ll send an enrollment invitation. Upon accepting your invitation you’ll pay your enrollment fee, fill out enrollment documents and review our Parent Handbook.
