Tammie is a mother of two adult children and a grandmother to four and has always wanted a large family of her own. After bringing up her two children she left her job and opened her own home-based early childhood program. Nineteen years later her family has grown to include the many children and families who have participated in her program.
Since Tammie entered the field of Early Childhood Education her passion for the children in her care and her profession has led her to join the Vermont STARS system in which she has earned a 4 out of 5 STAR rating. She has acquired the skills to serve as a VT Specialized Child Care Provider and when needed works with special educators, families and doctors to serve the needs of the children in her care. She has successfully earned her Child Development Associates and continues to develop her skills as a lifelong learner. She has become a network leader for the Early Childhood Professionals Network (ECPN) and is also a member of the Connections Network. Tammie has been instrumental in setting up two successful car seat and bike safety events as part of her network activities and has headed up the development of mini conferences for ECPN.
Tammie is currently serving as a member of the National Associations for the Education of Young Children’s Power to the Profession Task Force in Vermont (++https://www.naeyc.org/our-work/initiatives/profession++) where she hopes to make an impact in the quality of care that is offered to every child and to clearly define the Early Childhood Educator as part of a recognized Early Childhood Profession.

Philosophy
I strongly believe that children learn best through play and can exceed our greatest expectations with us cheering them on. To that end, I have created activities for learning during active play and during table time and I will continue to create games where children can learn and develop skills.
Children thrive in a loving supportive environment where routines and expectations are familiar. Give them the tools they need to develop positive self-esteem; good communication, fine and gross motor skills and they will become tomorrow’s leaders.
I feel it is my responsibility to make sure that my children are as prepared to enter kindergarten educationally as well as socially and emotionally and by holding to this philosophy I feel I am preparing the child to the best of my abilities.

About our program
Tammie’s Early Care & Education is a small home-based program and has been in operation since 2002. Opportunities to learn through cooking are woven throughout the program. Children learn about nutrition and participate in meal planning. Healthy meals as part of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program are served each day. Through cooking children gain confidence in themselves and learn to make healthy food choices.
Spending time outside is also a large part of the day. Time is spent exploring and learning about our environment. A highlight of each year is participating in the making of Maple Syrup.
The importance of family and supporting families is also a strong theme woven throughout the program. When your child joins the program, your family becomes part of a small community.
