Dawn Sullivan- Owner/Director of Sullivan Family Day Home.
Dawn began childcare more than 20 years ago, so that she could spend time with her children. As a single mom in the early years, Dawn found that the local daycare centers would call her away from work for a mere sniffle, so it just wasn’t working. Along with that , Dawn wasn’t getting any quality time with her babies. She has 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren now.
Over the years Dawn has had much training, became state licensed and truly loves spending time with children. Dawn believes in quality care, treating all children equally; and with much love.

Philosophy
I believe that as a childcare provider, I am responsible for providing infants, toddlers, and young children with positive learning experiences. I strive to model respect, patience, and care for children and adults I come in contact with. Children have the right to have their needs met while in the care of their caregivers. As your child’s provider, I believe that all children have a right to respect, regardless of their abilities. I strive to provide an environment that is safe yet stimulating, and a curriculum that challenges them through creativity, self-choice, and learning through play.
Therefore, this program supports the following philosophy about children and their growth:
- Each child individually learns in different ways, at a different pace, by different approaches, and at different ages of maturation.
- A positive self-concept develops in children who can fulfill their goals, accomplish tasks on their own, and cooperate with others and receive positive feelings from others.
- Self-disciplined children can direct their efforts towards fulfillment of their goals. Children learn self-discipline through understanding, commitment, and reinforcement.
- Self-reliance is achieved by allowing children to do as many things for themselves as they are capable of, but keeping in mind new skills.

About our program
Sullivan Family Day Home is a small in home childcare. We include many sensory experiences for your little ones. We believe in child-led learning through play. We provide many learning experiences throughout each day. Indoors as well as outdoors. The children have many opportunities to learn fine motor, large motor, language, manners, social skills and self-help skills in a family-like setting. Children receive quality personal and individualized care in a warm and loving home. We do not follow a strict regiment of class time, but instead give children every opportunity to turn playtime into a learning experience. The childrens’ own signals determine what we will do and if or how long they are capable of receiving structured learning time. That being said, we do strongly believe in routines. Children are better learners and all around more comfortable and happy with routines.
Our goal is not only to instill a love of learning that will last and inspire but create an atmosphere where children are in control of their own learning. Children learn to support, accept, respect, and understand each other all while working together to create, explore and innovate.
What your child can look forward to:
- Child-driven, self-paced learning
- core skills (math, reading, writing)
- Pre-writing and reading readiness
- Introduction of foreign languages and culture
- Science
