Miss Amy - Owner/Program Director- My vision for Miss Amy’s has always been a place where children are valued and encouraged to grow. With my family’s dedication to my mission and the wonderful staff I have had over the years, my dream is a thriving reality. I began working in the Early Childhood Education field 44 years ago at a summer Head start program. I have worked in other programs along the way, faith-based, in-home, military centers, and licensed. I attended two community colleges and one University during this time. I also had the opportunity to be a part of an international study group in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and learn firsthand the Reggio approach to Early Childhood Education.

Philosophy
We follow a Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy that emphasizes project-based learning and emergent curriculum, focusing on the child’s interests and individual educational path. Our approach involves creating learning opportunities through provocations and projects based on the child’s interests, allowing them to actively participate in shaping the direction of their learning journey. Our role as teachers is to establish an environment conducive to learning and to support each child’s educational development.
Location
Located in the heart of Abingdon, Va. Convenient to interstate 81 and within minutes to surrounding areas. Within walking distance to the public library and several parks. Public transportation is also available.
About our program
We are deeply rooted in the community. Having been in operation for 29 years and having grown to the capacity for 61 children over the years. We are a Virginia Quality Level 4 center. We are proud of this distinction. I feel that we bring the best of the Reggio philosophy to Southwest Virginia. We strive to educate the community about the importance of early childhood education while making learning visible and highlighting the work of the children thru local community activities such as our relationship with The Arts Depot, Washington County Public Library, and the United Way of Southwest Virginia.
