Description: I was a school bus driver for 9 years, before I stopped working when my daughter, Lily, was born. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, so I believe child care is the next best thing. To see the kids all play and grow together is so beautiful.

Philosophy

Learning

Children learn through both play and teaching lessons. Children here will play and interact with other children, while learning to share and appropriately express their emotions. Since we run a mixed group of all ages from birth to school age, younger children will also learn from the older children. You’d be surprised at how much kids learn while they play. They not only learn to socialize, but they will also learn problem solving, following directions, leadership skills and more! While much learning is done through play, some learning requires help. We like to help you prepare your young child for Kindergarten and to do this, we help them learn their alphabet, colors, shapes and practice writing their name. We learn through songs, worksheets, coloring pages, games and other learning activities. Please remember that everyone learns at a different pace. No two children are the same. When it comes to children learning skills, we believe the child should try their best first, before they ask for help. For instance, a child will try to put on their own shoes, before going to ask for an adults help. This applies to playing as well, a child will learn how to play on their own (when age appropriate). Such as learning to climb, swing themselves, throw a basketball, etc. When it comes to food, we believe all children should try a new food at least once, before declaring that they don’t like it. We of course won’t force them to eat, but all children will be asked to try a new food at least once (with the exception of allergies), before getting seconds of other items on their plate.

Religion

We are a non-religious based program. While we don’t teach religion here, we do celebrate all major federal holidays. Religion will not be discussed and children will NOT be shamed for their beliefs.

Discipline

Hitting, biting, kicking, etc. may happen at daycare. We will work with you and your child to ensure these behaviors do not become a problem. Profane language is never used here, neither during daycare hours nor after. We understand that it is common for most households to use it, but please understand that it is not allowed here. Forms of discipline that may be used in this child care home include: redirection, discuss the problem with the child, warn of the consequences, removal from group activities, loss of privileges, etc. If any behavioral problems arise, we will sit the child down, talk with them about the problem and let them sit and calm down (with me nearby). If we cannot work out the problem with your child, we will ask for your assistance. However, if even with your assistance and us doing our best your child, if your child is hurting others (physically and/or mentally) they will have to be removed from our program, for the safety of the other children.
