Our Teachers

Hello! My name is Samanthia Deas and I am the Owner and Lead Teacher here at Small ADULTS in the Making. After 15 years of working in Corporate America, I realized that I was not following my passion. Inspired by my daughter, I realized that my experience as a single mother showed me that working with kids was what I truly had a heart for.

My program has been open since June of 2004, and I have my Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and I am a 2016 Graduate of then Lillian Project’s 1st Cohort from the Harlem Business Alliance. In addition, I attend ongoing childcare trainings, seminars and conferences throughout the year.

I enjoy traveling in my spare time and during my trips to the Dominican Republic (2015) and Jamaica (2016) I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Triumphant Basic School in Montego Bay, Jamaica and Colegio Casita de Plata in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

I have an adult daughter who works at MECU and resides in Baltimore, MD.

I look forward to meeting you and your family!

Philosophy

Small Adults in the Making Wonderschool strives to provide experiences that will help children enter into mainstream society more successfully. We are committed to nurturing each child’s language, social, physical, cognitive, and emotional development. We strive to provide a balanced program and an atmosphere to meet the needs of children as they not only acquire knowledge but develop their language, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive attributes.

Location

Small Adults in the Making Wonderschool is located in a safe apartment building on the north end of Harlem. We are situated close to the 155th St station for the B and D lines, the 148th St Lenox station for the 3 line, and the A and C lines’ 155th St stop as well. We take advantage of our neighborhood’s local parks and libraries often. Come check out our space!

About our program

As a play-based program, we seek to provide children with a lot of chances to make choices. Decisions like what to play with and who to play with help children navigate development while still having fun. Our environment allows children to play in a way that is still educational.

Our goal is to foster independence in our kids. We know that they may be infants here, but these experiences shape them into the ADULTS they will become.

Parents are involved and welcomed in our program. We do special events and field trips throughout the year that parents are encouraged to attend. Can’t make it? Then check out our Instagram to stay involved with what happens here each day: @small.adults.in.the.making

We celebrate moments big and small. I am always looking for fun days to celebrate with the kids - whether it’s Candy Corn Day or Look Like a Pirate Date, it’s fun to see how kids respond to each little event.
