Our Teachers

Hello! My name is Maria Burgos, and I am the founding director of Little Smiles Group Family Daycare, Inc & Wonderschool. I have many years of experience working with children and have obtained my CDA from New York. When I arrived to this country, I knew I wanted to spend time with my second daughter - this turned into taking care of children, which turned into my devoting myself to providing parents like me with peace of mind and quality. I believe that in-home child care providers are professionals, teachers, and guides - and welcome you to visit my space and see it for yourself!

Philosophy

At Little Smiles, we believe that everything comes back to being part of a home-based program. Your child’s health, development, and well-being are the focus of what we do every day, and our goal is to make sure that all families and their children are comfortable with the level of care being provided here. We strive to create a warm environment where children come first, and kids are confident and safe exploring.

Location

Our program is located in a safe apartment building in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. Our outside time is facilitated at the nearby Highbridge Park in addition to local walks around the neighborhood. We are accessible for parents and caregivers by the 168 St-Washington Hts subway station on the 1, A, and C lines as well as only a few blocks from the New York-Presbyterian/Columbia Medical Center.

About our program

Our monthly themes are deeply connected to the children in our care. Whatever our topic is in my curriculum, it is connected through the books I read to the children, the art they create, and the activities that I lead them through. We use these units to help dig deep into various topics that children connect with.

This is a Spanish-immersion program. Children will spend their day communicating with us in Spanish, and those who remain with us will leave with a capable grasp of the language no matter what they speak at home.

As an in-home child care provider, I believe that we are connecting as families. I believe in giving quality care to all children, and love the opportunity to get to know you and your little one. I am still in touch with many of the children and families who were in my care years ago.

The physical environment of my home is dedicated to developmentally appropriate practices. From the toys and materials being at child height to the way that we speak with children, we ensure that we meet kids where they are and help them move through their growth at the pace that suits them.

If you would like to enroll, please submit an application! Please note that we require tours for all prospective families. Please do not submit an application if you have not visited the program.

4. Enroll

After reviewing your application, we’ll send an enrollment invitation. Upon accepting your invitation you’ll pay your enrollment fee, fill out enrollment documents and review our Parent Handbook.
