Our Teachers

Hello! My name is Rosa Ortiz and I am the founding provider of EKJ Family Group Daycare, where I work alongside my husband, a former bilingual high school teacher! We have raised a family of our own and I decided to open my own daycare so that I could work with children. I have always been passionate about children - I spent 6 years working in a previous early childhood setting and have 4 years of work with students who have special needs.

Philosophy

EKJ Family Group Daycare & Wonderschool follows a play-based curriculum. This means that we believe that children learn best by doing. When you give children the chance to play, they can explore and learn more, especially when they are making choices about what they get to do. We mostly speak Spanish, but we can speak English, too!

Location

This program is located on the first floor of a safe apartment building in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan! We are a short walk from the Dyckman St. Station on the A line and the 207th St Station on the 1 line. We are able to go outside to a nearby park when the weather commits or take a short walk around our neighborhood!

About our program

We have all different kinds of activities for kids to enjoy! Whether we’re reading a story, enjoying a song, or building with blocks, we love to see kids use their imagination and feel comfortable engaging with us and each other.

We are a bilingual program with a Spanish focus. Regardless of background, children enrolled at EKJ will interact in both languages, with a main focus on Spanish through reading and songs.

Focus on the positive! We love to share updates with you about what is going well at pick-up. It is our goal to always share good things that happen and keep you informed about your child’s development.
