Our Teachers

Hello! I am Yvelisse Polanco, the founder and lead teacher of Yvelisse’s Wonderschool. I was inspired to start my own program because I had a child of my own and wanted to spend as much time with him as I could during these important early childhood years. I also saw a need for high-quality care in my community and wanted to give other families the same loving, nurturing care I was providing for my own child. I have 15 years of experience working with young children and am excited to meet you and care for your children, too!

Philosophy

Welcome to Yvelisse’s Wonderschool! As a mother and an experienced child care provider, I believe that children grow, learn, and thrive best when they feel safe, loved, and nurtured by the people around them. At Yvelisse’s Wonderschool, children get to explore endlessly and will feel supported as they engage with new ideas and learnings. It is our ultimate goal to provide an environment that helps prepare our children to fulfill their potential in school and move into the broader world feeling confident and capable.

Location

Yvelisse’s Wonderschool is located in a spacious, beautiful apartment in the East Williamsburg neighborhood.

I have designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include manipulatives and math area (for fine motor skills and beginning math concepts), reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite), and sensory area (for spatial awareness and learning through the five senses).

Every day, our children will have some outdoor time at a local playground or will go on walks through the neighborhood. It’s so important for children to be outside and to be active! They need space to run, jump, and move as they build their strength and continue to grow.

At Yvelisse’s Wonderschool, I am determined to provide a loving home away from home where children will develop their cognitive, social, and emotional skills with age appropriate socialization and activities.

2. Tour our program

Come see what makes Yvelisse’s Wonderschool unique. If we are currently hosting tours, you can request or schedule a tour at the top of this page. If we are not currently hosting tours, you’ll see a “Request Info” button at the top of this page; if you submit your information using this button, we will notify you when we start host tours again in the future.

3. Submit an Enrollment Application

If you would like to enroll, please submit an application. Note that we require tours for all prospective families. Please do not submit an application if you have not visited the program.

4. Enroll

After reviewing your application, we’ll send an enrollment invitation. Upon accepting your invitation you’ll pay your enrollment fee, fill out enrollment documents and review our Parent Handbook.
