Our Teachers

Hello there! My name is Oliva Gaspar and I founded this program over 15 years ago. I raised two children of my own, and at first I was helping out with families in our building. Over time, I decided to move through the New York licensing process and also obtained my CDA. Now, I love supporting children in their development and am passionate about preparing them for school and life!

Philosophy

Oliva’s Group Daycare & Wonderschool is a play-based program that believes children grow best when they are happy and supported through songs, games, and activities. We believe in fostering student learning through exploring the world around us and using that to help create lessons and conversations at circle time that help kids get and stay interested. We may take a walk, and along our route we’ll have conversations with children each day that keep them interested. You might hear us asking these questions as we make our way through the world: “How many windows are on that building?” or “Which car is bigger?” or “What is happening to the trees’ leaves at this time of year?”

Location

Our program is located in a secure building in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. We have access to our apartment complex’s playground for outdoor time, but we also take walks around the block and sometimes to nearby Commodore Barry or Fort Greene Parks! We are conveniently located along the B62 bus route and a walkable to major downtown subway lines.

About our program

We use a units of learning to help children grow their vocabulary and keep their interest! Each month, we have a theme that we use to start conversations and help children feel excited about circle time or stories. By listening to the kids in our program, we are able to constantly decide what we will focus on doing next.

This is a Spanish-immersion program. Children will be spoken to each day in only Spanish. You do not have to speak Spanish at home for your child to benefit from this environment, and after some time all children are comfortable listening and speaking in the language!

We believe that families are an important piece of providing great care. We love sending photos and videos of what your child does each day to you so that you can see what we get up to. In addition, many families will celebrate events like birthdays with us just because we get to know you and your little one so well!

We offer weekly music classes for children as an additional part of our care.
