Our Teachers
My name is Mildred Caraballo and I am the founding director of Millie’s Daycare & Wonderschool. I was an accountant for over 25 years, but I closed that chapter in my life to move on to greater things: pursuing my dream of being a teacher. I feel that I have always had the opportunity to learn alongside children and families that are here: combining the new and exciting cultures in our neighborhood and being able to watch a child progress is most fulfilling thing I’ve witnessed.
Our program was originally licensed in 2012, and since then I have received my CDA and taken classes at NYU about early education and nutrition. I am always doing new trainings, involving myself in community, making sure parents have resources from the local library. Our program is part of the National Association for Family Child Care.
Philosophy
At Millie’s Daycare & Wonderschool, w believe that by being in a smaller setting your child will be provided with more individualized attention. Our goal is to help develop strong communication and language skills through a variety of tools like books, songs, music, and social drama play. In addition, we provide daily age-appropriate activities that will take place to enhance your little one’s already learned skills.
We include activities that will assist with six areas of development: creative, intelligence, cultural, emotional, cognitive, and social. You, the parent, can and are encouraged to be part of the learning process.
Location
Located in the Clason Point neighborhood in The Bronx, you’ll find Millie’s Daycare & Wonderschool in a secure, single-family home with a big backyard for the children in our care. Families will see that we are located ear the Soundview ferry terminal, and parking for drop-off or pick-up, if needed, is convenient.
About our program
Millie’s Daycare & Wonderschool uses lesson plans and a monthly theme to support learning. Each one lasts a month, and we do different activities each week. Each day, we’ll read books, create things, draw, and sing. Outdoor play might include an experiment, because we always talk about how the theme appears in real life.
Outdoor time has a big role in our program. Outdoor and science time are melded together to encourage exploration. We dig underground, we look for worms, we water our garden - it’s okay to get your hands a little dirty at Millie’s.
Parent involvement is very important for us. Our monthly newsletter gives tips for how our current theme can be explored in your home. We’ll share it with you and help you know your child is developing.
Kids love doing cooking projects with us. The process of following a recipe (and eating our results!) is fun for little ones. We do it all the time!
