Fawn Davila, Family Childcare Provider

I have always had a love for children but was never able to have children of my own. At the end of 2021, I made a complete career change from Hotel Management/Admin of 10 years to Childcare Provider. I have been studying Childcare through the University of Nevada Reno and am in the process of receiving my CDA. I have come to believe that this was the best decision and feel like this is my calling in life. My favorite part about having an at home Childcare, is developing strong relationships with the children in my care. My goal is to maintain a connection with their hearts while teaching skills, boundaries, and behavior.

Philosophy

I believe the people who make a difference in children’s lives aren’t the ones with the most credentials, the most money or the most awards, they are the ones who care. It brings me immense joy to see children learning and growing with each new activity they engage in. I have become invested in their lives and it’s interesting to discover the way a child’s mind develops and ways to foster various learning styles. My philosophy on teaching and learning is a hybrid mix of play-based learning and Montessori theories. I start with observing the child’s ages and stages, determine their needs and develop a curriculum that gives them real life skills that promote social, emotional, physical and cognitive development while learning through play or by helping around the home. I believe young children learn best in a loving, nurturing, understanding, safe, fun and healthy environment. Children are all unique and learn at their own pace. When an Early Childhood Educator shows interest in a specific activity, the children are more likely to get involved and show interest themselves. Allowing children the freedom to express themselves and be given the opportunity to do things on their own gives children a great sense of self independence and creates a more trusting relationship between educator and child. As an Early Childhood Educator, I believe it’s important for me to provide a loving, welcoming, and respectful environment that encourages positive transitions from my home to theirs. It is also my responsibility to provide an environment that creates stimulation and creativity so they are constantly learning and growing. I encourage and praise the children in everything they do, show off their work, and provide the support and help they require to succeed. Beyond teaching and learning, some other important aspects of my role as an Early Childhood Educator are being productive in the child’s home lives and creating a report with families. It’s also important for me to get involved with the community, local events, and being able to provide resources available to children and families when needed. Communication is key so I ensure the parents are updated daily with their child’s nutrition, daily activities, pictures, and I also provide the parents with resources regarding their child’s development and if there are any concerns.

About our program

We live in a rural area and our community is small but immense in so many ways. I am currently the only Childcare available to parents in our area. That being said, it is my personal goal to develop strong, family-oriented relationships with families, keeping them informed about their child and any new information presented to me and also incorporate them with parent involvement activities they can do in the Childcare or at home. I offer weekly themed curriculum with age-based lesson plans which consist of play based and Montessori-inspired theories as part of early childhood development. It is important for me to provide them with their life skills and prepare them for school.
