Our Teachers

My name is Deborah Schotborgh. My husband Chuck and I have raised 6 wonderful kids now aged 15 to 29. We have a dog, cats and four of our kids currently live with us. Our house is a well-lived-in home.

Over the past 20 years I have (off and on) been the owner/operator of a licensed in-home childcare.

In early 2020 I had to close my childcare because of the increased risk of Covid. I spent some time making masks for several months, and in the summer of 2021 began teaching the Two-Year-Olds Class at Sonshine Preschool.

I am originally from San Jose, California. My husband and I have moved with our kids many times in the past 30 years, but I consider Reno my favorite place. Our family attends Hope Community and will be seen Sunday mornings serving throughout the children’s, youth and music ministries.

It is with great joy that I can reopen my in-home childcare this year! I have missed the one on one attention I can give to very important little people. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your family.

Philosophy

I have a very natural approach to raising children. Inspired by Charlotte Mason, I believe that “education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life”. Children should be respected as individuals and there is an innate desire within them to learn.

In my home, we learn through stories, have plenty of outdoor learning time like walks in nature, and enjoy art and music time. Children will have access to math manipulatives, science experiments, art materials, literature, dramatic play and musical instruments where they can choose to explore what interests them.

Location

Located in South Reno, we are just a few blocks from JWood Raw Elementary School. We can take a walk through the walking paths to Brown Elementary as well as to Damonte Ranch Park.

About our program

Family childcare offers a home away from home, providing children with “siblings” of all ages to play, socialize, and learn from. My goal in providing quality childcare is to provide a safe, nurturing, and learning environment, using positive guidance to provide a place to foster unconditional love.
