Testimonials

Parent Involvement Parents are expected to abide by the policies and rules of the Ark.

If you child is older than nursery, parents take turns bringing in snack for the whole class.

The Ark holds parent/teacher conferences to keep you up to date on your child’s progress.

We appreciate your help in fund raising, on field trips, on the Ark board or an occasional committee, providing helpful supplies for the classroom, and sharing your skills with the children.

Philosophy

Philosophy Statement At the Ark we help each child become the child God designed him to be physically emotionally, socially, cognitively and spiritually. Children are expected to come to school and be themselves.

The Ark staff works as a team with parents to help each child become and independent and unique person. Young children learn through hands on experiences. Teachers are facilitators in creating those learning experiences as they develop the many skills they need from infancy through the elementary school years.

In our play oriented environment, we have many small classrooms with low adult/child ratios to create a nurturing environment that enables children to learn and feel loved. Our large play yard with play structures and Fellowship Hall lend themselves to a wide variety of activities no matter what the weather.

Location

operates as a ministry of the Los Alamos First United Methodist Church. Behind the “Lemon Lot” and adjacent to “Sullivan Field”

About our program

The Ark Child Development Center provides child care and preschool services for children from the ages of 6 weeks to 12 years. The Ark is open to all children who may benefit from our programs, regardless of race, nationality, or creed. Our governing body is the Ark Board. The Ark is non-profit, non-political, and non-denominational. Each week we sing and hear Bible stories at chapel. Celebrations of Christmas and Easter as Christian holidays, as well as special events from other cultures, help children connect with a variety of religious and cultural traditions.
