Hi, my name is Mrs. Shay and I’m the owner/operator of Modern Early Learning Academy. I’m happily married and have one adventurous preschooler. I have over 18+ years of experience in the Early Childhood Profession. Some of my professional accomplishments include my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, my Professional Nanny Diploma, and my Master’s Degree in Social Work. My previous work experience includes teaching Pre-Kindergarten, working as an Early Childhood Outreach Mental Health Consultant, and Program Manager for Early Head Start. I am a certified endorsed Early Childhood State trainer through the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) and a certified endorsed (TA) Practitioner providing coaching, resources, and support to other Early Childhood Educators across the state. My Philosophy for learning is that each child is unique and that each child learns differently. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside them to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences and learning creatively to expand your child’s understanding beyond the traditional classroom to create a strong foundation of knowledge for future success.

Testimonials
“I started with my baby going to her for care Monday-Friday. He absolutely adores her and does so well for her. The transition was seamless and he has not had any issues getting used to being there. Now my two big boys go for summer camp. They love it. They wake up every day excited to go to her. They learn new things and do so many cute/cool activities. I really love how much they love to be there. The love and care she shows my boys is incomparable. I fully trust her with the care of my boys! She’s the best!”- Current Parent of Enrolled Child
“Mrs. Shay is one of the absolute best caregivers I know! From her patience and the love & care, she has for the children in her care to her years of experience and vast knowledge in early childhood development. I fully trust her with the care and education of my children!” Previous Parent of Enrolled Child
“ I was used to childcare where kids were only playing, but here they also learn many different things” - Parent of Enrolled Child
“ I appreciate the individualism that this program offers children. I feel like in much larger programs, it’s more like “ child watch” than actually preparing the child to succeed academically.” - Parent of Enrolled Child
“The strongest point of the program is getting children ready for Kindergarten. Teaching them what they need to know, plus so much more. Interacting with the children and activities that make them think and learn.”- Parent of Enrolled Child

Admissions
Explore Our Website We’ve provided information about our philosophies and offerings to help you decide if our program may be right for your family. If you want to learn more and are interested in having your child join our program Mrs. Shay will need to collect some information in order to add you to the interested/call-back list.
Call Back List ( I’m Interested list) Once a spot becomes available Mrs. Shay will make an announcement and reach out to those on the call-back/ emailing list. At that time families will be asked to fill out a Child Questionnaire Form. This is a way for Mrs. Shay to learn a little about your child ( Allergies, Phobias, Likes, Dislikes, Health Issues, etc.).
Tour our program Come see what makes Modern Early Learning Academy unique. During this time you will get a walk-through of the learning space and have a sit-down conversation about your childcare philosophies, a brief review of the handbook, hours of operation, and an opportunity for you to ask any questions. Mrs. Shay encourages parents to bring their children on his/her tour. Mrs. Shay will meet with several families and make a decision based on the best fit. Longevity in our program is essential in preparing your child for kindergarten and creating consistent routines.
Submit an Enrollment Application If selected you will receive an email with enrollment information. There is a $50 Enrollment Fee and an Annual $50 Supply Fee due at the time of enrollment. The $50 Annual supply fee will incur on the date of your child’s official start date each year. The first week’s tuition will be due prior to your child’s official start date.
