Our Teachers

Teena Leach, Director and Head Teacher

Hello! My name is Teena. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and have been working with children for 16 years. I have training in play-based education and the Waldorf Approach.

I believe that children learn best through play and that each child has potential that can be supported with the right type of environment and support.

I started my own school because I wanted to provide the high quality early childhood care that I believe each child deserves. I want opportunities to provide more 1:1 care and a education that most larger center-base locations would not be able to provide.

I am also a parent of five pretty amazing children.

Philosophy

Our program is rooted in “The Waldorf Approach”, where children thrive by independently choosing their learning path in a fun and creative manner. We recognize that children are the driving force of our future and their imaginative exploration enhances the bond between caretaker and learner, fostering a more enjoyable educational experience. Emphasizing imagination and freedom, we strive to create an environment that nurtures each child’s unique growth journey.

Location

Teena’s Family Childcare is located in a beautiful single family home. The school occupies the newly renovated garage built to cater to the daily needs of our daycare with its own bathroom. This space leads outside to a large fenced in outdoor space.

The indoor space offers children opportunities for exploration. We have a dramatic play area to allow for endless imaginary fun where they can put on a puppet show or baked cupcakes for their friends; a quiet, cozy reading and writing area where children can build language and fine motor skills; and a fun area where kids are always eager to creatively build the tallest tower using different shape blocks and textures. Areas in the room will change to help ignite the interest of the children.

Exploring the outdoors is very important to us; with children’s natural tendency to play it just amazing way that allows for children to build positive social and emotional skills as well as help exercise their gross motor muscles. We offer a large playground where children can climb, slide, and scooters for children to use all while building long lasting friendships with their peers.

About our program

We use an emergent curriculum centered around the children’s interests and ideas. Learning happens through play, however, is done within structured weekly routine of games and activities. Children are excited by the learning process and develop enthusiasm for knowledge and a predisposition for life-long learning.

The children in our program explore through art, language, math, science, and nature through their projects.

We view the teacher as a partner in learning with the children and as someone who observes and listens in order to guide children’s learning experiences. The environment is also viewed as a teacher, and therefore, it is thoughtfully constructed to reflect the learning process of the children.
