Philosophy
Our philosophy is that all children are unique with varying learning styles. We believe that with the proper age-appropriate instruction and activities all students can learn and perform at their developmental level. To that end we cater our teaching practices to accommodate the unique learning styles. We further believe that all children are equal and deserve the same level of care without regard for race, religion or economic status. We refrain from using language that dictates what materials any student may enjoy. There are no areas just for boys or just for girls. We allow the children to freely choose how they enjoy the materials and interest areas.
About our program
Good Shepherd uses the state approved Creative Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum balances both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning, with an emphasis on responding to children’s learning styles and building on their strengths and interests. This curricula applies the latest theory and research on best practices in teaching and learning and the content standards developed by states and professional organizations. While keeping the original environmentally-based approach it clearly defines the teacher’s vital role in connecting content, teaching, and learning for children. It features goals and objectives linked directly to our valid and reliable assessment instrument.
