Vanessa Arnold, Owner/Director
Vanessa has completed over 30 college credit hours in early childhood education from St. Louis community college. She has over 10 years of hands-on experience working in a center. She is CPR/1st Aid trained. She has taken continued education classes to implement a curriculum with an emphasis in social/emotional wellbeing . After having 2 children of her own she decided to open her own center with her mother-in-law. She prides herself in her communication skills, professionalism and attention to detail. She believes in building relationships with her team and the children in the center in order to provide a solid and supportive learning environment.
Mrs. Karen- Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Karen has been our preschool teacher for over 5 years now. She has worked in childcare for over 30 years total. She has completed her bachelor’s degree in special education. She believes children learn in many different ways. This is why she provides learning opportunities for your child in a way that allows them to thrive and succeed in her classroom.
Ms. Tiffany - Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher
Ms. Tiffany has been with us for almost 2 years. She has 4 year old daughter who also attends the center. She is CPR/1st Aid trained and continues to take annual clock hour training. She feels blessed and excited to be able to watch children grow and learn. She takes pride in developing relationships with the children at the center. Seeing them smile is one of her favorite things first thing in the morning. Ms. Tiffany looks forward to getting the opportunity to help your child learn, grow, and develop.
Ms. Ketra - Infant & One’s Teacher
Ms. Ketra has been with us for right at a year now. She is a mother of 3 beautiful girls. She previously worked in healthcare for over 15 years. She has had the opportunity to be a part of the childcare industry since a young age. Her mother was a preschool teacher and ran an in-home daycare that Ms. Ketra would often help with. She says providing care to children comes very naturally to her. She loves the excitement that children have when you are watching them grow and learn. She loves all the children in the center and looks forward to seeing their faces everyday.
Ms. Brittany - Two’s & Three’s Teacher
Ms. Brittany has been with us for just under a year. She has 4 children and is engaged. She loves to spend time with her family when she is not at work. She has been working in childcare for a decade. She has had the pleasure of providing care to children ranging from 6 weeks - 10 years old. She loves that she gets to have a positive impact on your child’s life. She loves to have fun and get messy while teaching the children in her care. She is excited to get to know and develop a bond with all of our families here at Step by Step.
Ms. Breauna - Floats between rooms
Ms. Breauna has been in childcare for a little over a year. She has a daughter that is almost 2. She loves being a teacher for young children. She believes the impact a teacher has on children in her care at a young age is very important. She takes pride in teaching them skills and knowledge that they will use and build from. She says seeing the children’s faces is the favorite part of her day.

*Step By Step Learning Center has been a part of our lives for the past 3 years. Both of my children attended and always looked forward to walking in the doors in the morning and coming home each day to show off their artwork, treasure box prize for good behavior, or the book that Miss Phyllis gave to them during story time. Miss Karen has had such a positive impact on my children’s social and educational development. Every staff is very polite, respectful, and personable. The center if full of imagination, creativity, art, books, toys, and love!
*This place has been the best since the beginning. Teachers and staff are so great. Always a lesson plan and fun teachings for all of the kiddos rather than just coloring and playing. Never an issue and highly recommend.
*Step by step learning is such a welcoming warm environment my son has never been to daycare and he loves the staff there. They keep me updated all day and answers any questions you need through out the day. They really made this transition for me and my son so easy and comfortable we really appreciate them
*My middle daughter has been going to step by step since she was 6months old. I was impressed by the daycare so I added her older sister who at the time was three. I don’t think there is enough words for how grateful I am that Step by Step exists. My oldest struggles with big emotions and she thrived there. Mrs. Karen prepared my oldest for kindergarten to a point that the evaluators were impressed she knew so much. My middle child is currently in Ms. Faiths class (three year old) and I LOVE the activities that are being done. Along with my girls I have my youngest boy in the baby room. Ms. Tiffany does a great job updating me on his progress and talking with me about milestones. Everyone that I have met at drop off and pickup has been great. I can see my kids are loved, taken care of, and learning. Thank you to the staff and owners!

The facility is clean and the staff is awesome. I am very happy with the whole place and recommend them to anyone looking for a great daycare. Lots of activities, plenty of food and new friends to play with, what else could I ask for. They have even helping with potty training!!! *Step by Step Learning Center is amazing! The facility is great, it’s clean and takes all precautions to keeps the kids safe and healthy. We have a 3 year old who attends full day daycare and a 6 year old who attends as needed after school and when there is no school. We are so happy with them and recommend them to anyone looking for a great daycare. They do tons of activities with the kids and send parents updates (with pictures) throughtout the day. They provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Our son loves Ms. Tiffany (one of his fantastic teachers), when he’s “moody” in the morning while being dropped off as soon as he sees her he completely changes and happily runs off. All of the staff is wonderful, they are friendly, patient, and caring. Vanessa, one of the owners, is the nicest person to work with.If you are in need of a great daycare this is your place!
*Step by step learning center is a great learning and family environment. As a first time parent to daycare I couldn’t have picked a better place! I have two girls who love going to step by step. They have so much fun, love the teachers, and our learning so much. I did ALOT of research and comparing centers in my area. Step by step learning center in my opinion is great. Check it out!!

Philosophy
At our school, we believe learning through play is viewed as the cornerstone of the curriculum. Our teachers provide protection, security, stimulation, support and affection. We provide a planned environment that sparks the interest, imagination and enthusiasm of each child. We emphasize work and play that include activities that are designed for social, emotional, language, cognitive and physical development.
Location
We are located in the wonderful community of Cottleville. We are in the Francis Howell school district. With easy access to 364 and Mid Rivers it is a breeze to get to us. We are just a short walk or drive to what downtown Cottleville has to offer.
