Our Teachers
My name is Susan Weiner. Let me begin by telling you a little bit about my background and experience. I have been employed in the field of early childhood care and education for over twenty five years in one capacity or another. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1993. Since that time, my career path has progressed from working directly with children ages birth thru five to earning my master’s degree in Occupational Education and providing on-site child care training and college credit classes to child care providers in the field as well as mentoring undergraduate students pursuing a degree in a child development related field.
Philosophy
My work with children is based, in part, on the research of Swiss philosopher and developmental psychologist Jean Piaget. Piaget theorized that children actively construct their own knowledge through the interactions, experiences, and opportunities provided to them. In other words, children learn through play. It is my role, as the teacher, to facilitate this learning by providing meaningful activities and opportunities for the children to explore in both large and small group settings as well as individually. Children thrive on positive interactions with peers and adults to guide their physical, cognitive, social emotional, and language development. It is my goal to maintain open lines of communication with parents and to work as a team or partnership to assist the child in the development of a positive self-image and gaining the skills needed to become a productive and successful member of society.
