Philosophy

Ubuntu Academy believes that children thrive in environments where they feel a strong sense of belonging, connection, and community. Our philosophy is rooted in the principle: “I Am Because We Are.” Children are not only individuals; they are members of a classroom community, a family, and a larger community. We encourage children to learn how to care for themselves while also learning how to care for others. Our program focuses on: ● Building positive relationships ● Social-emotional development ● Independence and self-help skills ● Hands-on learning ● Creativity and exploration ● Language and communication ● Early literacy and mathematics ● Problem-solving ● Respect for others ● International cultural awareness ● Outdoor play and physical development ● Building confidence and self-esteem Teachers provide children with opportunities to make choices, explore their environment, ask questions, solve problems, and develop relationships with peers and adults. We believe children learn through meaningful interactions, exploration, routines, and hands-on experiences.

Location

We are located between the East and Northside of Kalamazoo at 11 Mills Street. We are minutes from downtown Kalamazoo!
