The school has a peaceful energy and environment. The teachers value and lift up each child’s uniqueness which helped my daughter feel confident and love school!
Daniel - Our daughter attended Bread and Roses this year. The teachers are knowledgeable, inclusive, accommodating, and kind. They care about the kids and the community. They have been wonderful. I would highly recommend them to anyone with a 3 to 5 year old child. Very reasonable prices too! Flexible schedules and they gave great feedback when we changed our schedule after spring break.
Stoney - Bread and Roses is a hidden treasure in Kalamazoo. The staff are so good with the kids. They are gentle and calm with the kids. I trust them 100% with my daughter and highly recommend them!
Melissa - My child attended Bread and Roses for 2 years. Not only was he academically prepared for kindergarten, but he was socially and emotionally prepared as well. During our time there, we felt included, involved, and informed by the staff. Drop off and pick ups were smooth transitions and every day was my child’s favorite day there. He’s in 2nd grade now and he still shares memories and activities he did at a 4 year old, especially the field trips! I love all the teachers at Bread and Roses and still chat with them when we see each other in the community. Bread and Roses is a special and unique place that focuses on play-based learning and an array of research based early childhood practices. I could go on and on. We are very fortunate to have Bread and Roses in our community.
Philosophy
We are inspired by Reggio Emilia principles. We create an environment where children are capable of constructing their own learning. Our programs are designed to encourage collaboration within the community and to empower children to express themselves in their own unique ways. Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to act as the third teacher, providing a stimulating and nurturing space for exploration. Our teachers are partners in education, supporting children’s interests and facilitating their short and long-term goals. We also believe that parents are essential partners in their child’s education journey.
Our focus is on creating a positive and nurturing environment where children feel safe to explore and learn. Our approach is centered around the child’s interests and abilities, allowing them to grow and develop in their own time and at their own pace. We believe in supporting each child’s individual learning journey by building on their strengths and nurturing any areas that may need improvement. Our goal is to cultivate a love for learning that will stay with our students as they continue to grow and develop.
At Bread and Roses Childcare, we value the power of imaginative play. Our Imaginative Play program allows children to engage in open-ended play, where they can freely express themselves and explore their imagination. Through play, children develop important social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Our dedicated teachers create a supportive environment that encourages children to take risks, problem-solve, and collaborate with their peers.
Outdoor play is an integral part of our curriculum at Bread and Roses Childcare. We believe that nature provides endless opportunities for learning and growth. Our Outdoor Play program allows children to connect with the natural world, develop gross motor skills, and enhance their overall well-being. Through outdoor activities and exploration, children learn about the environment, develop a sense of curiosity, and build resilience.
About our program
We are now proud to meet the needs of our community by offering year-round programming! Please message or give us a call to schedule a tour!
Bread and Roses was created as an alternative child care center as a place where the whole child would be valued and nurtured. We created a full preschool program with full day care hours. Our program stresses many different things, including emotional, social, physical, and cognitive growth. We believe in fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment for every child. Our philosophy is based on trust, respect, and the individuality of each child. We value family life, diversity, creativity, problem-solving skills, and the right of each child to make choices for themselves.
