Our Teachers
Hello, my name is Deanna Brown. I am a long-time resident of the City of Highland Park. I attended Barber Elementary School and graduated from Cass Technical High School of Detroit. I have worked in the early childhood field for over 20 years. I first gained a love of early education when my son entered preschool, 26 years ago.
This love has led me to earn my BA in Early Childhood Education, with a Teaching Certificate from the State of Michigan from Marygrove College. I have served as a teacher of Early Childhood Education for the EAA, Developmental Centers of Detroit, and DPS. In 2020, I earned my MA in Early Childhood Education Administration from Northern Michigan University.
I have had the pleasure of serving as the Director of Early Childhood Programs for Harper Woods School District, Dr. Martin Luther King Academy, and Hope Academy. I am excited to bring my education, skill set, leadership, and knowledge to the city of Highland Park with the opening of New Mount Educational Center. This Center will provide access to quality childcare services to the community and children alike.
Philosophy
New Mount Educational Center follows a developmentally appropriate program that stresses to enhance and better prepare the “whole child”. To develop the “whole child”, teachers at New Mount Educational Center will incorporate play into every aspect of the curriculum, with a specific focus on physical, cognitive, language, and social and emotional development. Our program is designed to foster self-esteem, self-confidence, and competence in self-help skills.
