My name is Kelly Felty, my fiancé and I have three sons and are newer to the Greenville area.
A huge passion of mine has always been child development and child care. As a young adult I became certified in CPR training and I started taking young children and babysat for many families who were in need of child care. I have always loved being the company of children, watching them learn, create and be them selves. I worked as a waitress for over 7 years. As much as I did enjoy what I did, I also felt it was not rewarding and I set out to find a “big girl job”. After testing out the waters, in the banking and life and health insurance world I realized I still felt I wasn’t making the difference I want to in the community.
When we moved here to the Greenville area I went back to the drawling board. As a child I always dreamed of owning my own daycare. Well here I am, making that dream a reality.
In my adult life I enjoy gardening, camping, motocross, being outdoors, reading, and most of all loving my family, friends and all the beauty God has created.
Philosophy
Our mission here at Markel’s Daycare, is to provide child-care that is personalized to the needs of each child and their family. Here at Markel’s day care we keep the child at the center of everything we do. By making sure the Daycare is safe and secure for all children of all ages. Maintaining reliable care, by keeping open communication with parents/clients. Quality is a huge deal for us here at Markel’s daycare, by having a smaller scale daycare we can ensure that your child will be given the tools they need to advance. We create curriculum that is stimulating, engaging and just plain fun! At Markel’s Daycare we are excited to not only make wonderful memories but help build a foundation that will last a lifetime! Making Our Mark, Markel’s Daycare is a small, home-based daycare located in Gowen, MI. We cater to children aged 8 Weeks -12 years old and offer full-time, part-time, and drop-in care. Our curriculum is based on the Reggio Emilia approach, emphasizing hands-on learning and collaboration, with a very Nature Based approach. Activities and programs include arts and crafts, music, scenery tables, and outdoor play. Our home facility can accommodate up to 7 children at a time. We have a staff of two employees who are all CPR and First Aid certified. Our target market is working parents and families who need quality child-care but can’t afford the rates of larger daycare centers. We’ve created an affordable and sustainable pricing model for our target market to fulfill the demand.
Location
At Making Our Mark, Markel’s daycare we are located in Gowen, Michigan on MacClain St. Here we are conveniently located close to many public parks, including nature trails, playgrounds, skate parks and public beaches. We also have a large amount of acreage which allows myself and the children room to ride bikes, explore and be creative.

From our sensory stations, to learning about animal tracks, studying leaves and what kind of trees they belong to. Here at Markel’s Daycare we are excited to not only make wonderful memories, but help build a foundation that will last a life time! We celebrate holidays during the week prior learning about why the holiday is special to us and create projects and crafts based upon the upcoming holiday. We have special teachers/helpers who specialize in dietition, healthy eating habits and behavioral therapy. These ladies will be coming ones a month to teach, healthy boundaries/personal space, feelings (happy/sad) ways we can become happy is we feel sad, introduce new healthy snacks/treats and simply have some fun teaching and creating with the children. These ladies are a wonderful addition to our learning and education at Markel’s daycare.
