Our Teachers

Director Sherry Garlanger graduated from Tiffin University in 2012 with an Administration (BA) degree. In 2022, she realized her dream of having her own childcare program and started the process. Her favorite thing about what she does is developing relationships with families and getting to know each child as an individual so her and her team can providing the best care.

Philosophy

At our Daycare, we strive to create a safe and caring community of young explorers inspired by the Early Childhood Education Curriculum Framework, which follows a play-based learning philosophy . Our program is a place where children can learn through doing, invent through making, and solve problems by working together. We believe that when children are truly engaged with their environment, magic happens. Our team is experienced and innovative and create a space driven by the interests and ideas of the children who attend.

Location

We are close to downtown Alpena with easy access to us from Washington ave, 9th, Chisholm and State Streets, along with M-32. We’re a few blocks away from the NOAA, ACC campus, schools and shopping. We’re in a peaceful, quiet location if you’re looking to commute to work and drop the little ones off at Mi Childs Daycare, a parent’s dream!

About our program

We are open everyday except for Sundays. Family fun events offered Birthday, Holidays and special occasions celebrated. At our daycare, we teach the concepts of math, science, art, social sciences and early literacy through our play-based, child-led curriculum. We use the interests and ideas of the children as a jumping off place. The materials are open-ended and invite discovery. Children make their own investigations and draw their own conclusions whenever possible. We offer additional services such as tutoring, family art classes and a clothing exchange program. 3. Submit an Enrollment Application If you’re interested in enrolling, submit an application by selecting Apply to enroll. If this option if not available, you can message the program director. *Please do not apply until you contact us directly.
