We chose Mi Escuelita because we wanted a home-like setting for our children. We sent our oldest when he was two and they did such a good job of transitioning him into the school routine. He cried a little in the beginning but after a few days he looked forward to going and wanted to stay longer when it was time to pick him up. They really helped us as parents to get a routine going that would make him feel safe and look forward to school. They have a little song about how parents come back and that helped so much. The backyard is amazing and has lots of space to run outside and get energy out. The kids enjoyed the singing at the end of the day so much and all of the centers and toys.
One thing is that my children really learned the important skills for being in a group at school- using your chair, a cubby/hooks, many good independence skills like fastening coats, putting on shoes and hats and gloves, using the potty independently, listening to friends, learning to raise your hands and speak to your class (show and tell!), lining up, and the little daily routines for being in a larger group at school. Our kids did very well transitioning right from Mi Escuelita into classes of 25+ students for elementary school.
We love the multi-age grouping and how the kids learn to be around other children of all ages. It was very helpful because when we had our second child our oldest knew how to keep babies safe and had experience interacting with them. We learned so many good habits and routines for our kids here in our house. Our children learned to love rice and beans so much that I still make it for them and they are 6 and 9! I have to make them “Tia’s Way” or else they will not touch them. And they have to be Goya brand! :) Our children were loved and part of a family during their time at Mi Escuelita. We recommend them very highly to other families. Megan W
I love Anabela and Ed, and my son loves them too. We were so scared to put our son in daycare but I knew when I went to visit this was the right place. We only took our son out b/c we moved to Gaithersburg and the commute was way too far, but my son still asks for Anabela and Ed every day by name! They do so much with the kids and my son learned a ton there. He was 18 months when we put him in and a little over 2 when we moved. He knew all the letters in his name, can identify all his ABC’s as well. They do field trips, arts and crafts, no tv at all which was amazing to me, and teach the kids in English and Spanish. Their hours are 7:30-5:30 All the parents and kids are amazing we never had one problem or complaint. I could not have asked for better childcare and I miss them a lot. If you ever get a chance to enroll your child with them you will be very happy, plus they provide breakfast and lunch and 2 snacks! The price was not that bad however they do not give a price break for more than one child. However, they are worth it. Such a loving center. Ryan H
My family is so happy we found Mi Escuelita for our childcare needs! My son loves the time he spends at “school”. The kids always have fun age-appropriate activities planned and have made so much progress intellectually. We love it so much we are getting ready to send our infant there as well! Anabela and the rest of the teachers do such a wonderful job we couldn’t ask for more. Melissa T.
I would like to recommend this bilingual childcare. My child started attending when she was 13 months old and over the past 2 years, we have seen her blossom socially and academically. She enjoys going to see Anabela, her teachers, and friends at Mi Escuelita. Anabela has had great insight into my child’s needs and is always providing us with guidance on how to support my child’s development. As a speech-language pathologist, I am pleased with Mi Escuelita’s program that is rich with dual language opportunities and creative activities that keep my child learning every day. The teachers and children are very polite and friendly and I can see that my child is well taken care of. Monique TM.
Our entire family absolutely loves Mi Escuelita. Both of our children are students and Anabela and the other teachers are simply wonderful with them. Exceptionally kind, caring, attentive, and communicative about what’s going on, how the children are doing, ideas to help them continue to grow and develop their skills and their personalities. If you’re looking for a program that feels like a home away from home for your little ones, then Mi Escuelita is just what you’re looking for. Mike M.
Philosophy
++MY PHILOSOPHY OF QUALITY CARE: ++
We believe that providing a safe, comfortable, stimulating, fun, educational environment with a structured but flexible daily plan is the best way to support a child’s development and growth. We include both free and structured playtimes, large and small motor skill activities, storytime in Spanish and English, dramatic play activities, arts and crafts, music and dance activities, nature and ecology awareness, nutrition, and cultural activities all aimed to be both educational and fun. Although this is a bilingual Spanish/English program, we also incorporate home language and culture from all children in our care.
Through a balance of teacher-guided and child-directed creative play, children in my care will have the opportunity to learn about color, shapes, textures, numbers, letters, animals, seasons, feelings, senses, nutrition, personal hygiene, manners, basic science, and math concepts.
These may sound like lofty goals for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, but children can learn all of these things and more through creative play. I do not believe in pushing any child to learn at an accelerated rate, and will not make a child feel pressured to achieve any developmental milestones. By providing the right kind of fun safe environment, I believe that children will learn at their own appropriate pace.
We have a comprehensive Preschool Educational Program for pre-k, 3 year-olds, and two-year-olds. This program is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and is aligned with the Maryland Early Learning Standards (MELS) which is the standard for preparing young learners for entering kindergarten. and incorporates Maryland’s Healthy Beginnings program.
We will comply with all regulations promulgated for child care providers in Maryland, and you are welcome to visit your child and to observe all areas of my Home used for child care at any time while your child is in my care.

About our program
MISSION
Our mission is for“Mi Escuelita” to partner with working parents in raising and educating bilingual students that are independent, self-sufficient with critical thinking, emotionally and socially ready for different situations in the real world.
VISION
Our vision is to provide a high-quality safe, comfortable, stimulating, fun, diverse, inclusive, and bilingual environment with a structured but flexible plan to support a child’s development and growth at their own pace. Furthermore, we at “Mi Escuelita” provide a bilingual curriculum, English/Spanish. But welcome and promote the learning of any other language that supports the children’s family background or needs.
PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy is that through a mixture of guided and undirected CREATIVE PLAY, children in our care will have the opportunity to learn and explore to discover their strengths. We don’t believe in pushing any child to learn at an accelerated rate or meet certain milestones. Every child will learn at their own appropriate pace. But will master the skills of self-sufficient, independence, critical thinking, and being emotionally and socially ready combine with the bilingual skills will get students kindergarten ready.
It is imperative that as educators we develop new and innovative ways to help children be successful in the future. My teaching style embodies the role of facilitator for student success. As an educator, I do my best to know each child’s different learning styles and personalities and I mold the way I teach to their own specific needs. Children’s imagination should be ignited in each child and kindled by the teamwork of educators and parents. Parents should be as involved in their daily activities as possible. I’m a big advocate of sending parents pictures of their little one’s day. I strongly believe that “it takes a village to raise a child” Therefore, I develop a partnership with the families where we work together to raise and educate the children.
When a child is in my care it is my utmost duty to make each child feel safe, loved, and help build their confidence. I use any opportunity to teach social-emotional skills because when a child can take turns, learn to keep their hands to themselves, or be where they belong, a child will be more ready to learn in kindergarten.
I also believe that children can learn as many languages as you exposed them and the early years are the best for this. Therefore, I teach in English and Spanish and welcome the learning of any other language that represents the families’ culture. My ultimate goal as an educator is to provide young children with high-quality instruction that meets the individual needs of each student. To create an inspiring and equitable learning environment in which students feel safe and secure, and the parents also feel at ease, included, and involved.
