Philosophy
I believe in teaching children respect, compassion, empathy, and morals by example. I believe in saying sorry, helping others and taking responsibility for your actions. I believe in giving space when needed and teaching children how to use their words to show emotion. I believe children need emotional and social stability to make a learning environment flourish. I believe playing is learning and that all children learn differently. I believe in getting to know a child individually (their interests and backgrounds including their culture) is most important because they teach you how to teach them. Knowing a child and their background helps to know how to keep them interested and involved. I like to find out about the child’s cultural differences too so we can include it in our lessons of acceptance and unity. Children will excel more if they feel included. I believe in reading a lot and playing more. I believe kids learn more when they are having fun. I believe children need consistency and to know what we expect from them. I also believe parental involvement is tremendously important and therefore communication is highly important. I believe in celebrating children’s achievements and helping them learn from their mistakes. I believe lessons should come from child-initiated and teacher-directed activities which I will offer every day. I believe in giving the child the choice whether they want to participate or not because sometimes they just don’t and that is okay as long as they do not interfere with others who want to. If none of the children are engaged then I will follow their lead and revisit the lesson another day or do it in a different fashion that day. I also believe a well fed and rested child is a child who gets the most of their day.
