Our Teachers

Catherine Naegamvala

With over twenty years of distinguished service in progressive education, Catherine Naegamvala is a highly qualified and dedicated Montessori educator committed to fostering each child’s growth and potential. Catherine holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Psychology, a Master of Education in Curriculum Assessment and Instruction (with a focus on reading and writing) and has earned teaching credentials and national certification for grades one through six from respected institutions including Lesley University, University of Maine at Fort Kent, and University College of Cape Breton. She is also AMS Montessori certified through the New England Montessori Teacher Education Center.

Catherine’s professional journey includes leadership, teaching, and mentorship roles at Silver Spruce Montessori School—where she served as Reading and Writing Specialist, Montessori Consultant, Assistant Director, and Acting Director. There, she led school-wide literacy initiatives, mentored educators, coordinated curriculum, managed operations, and fostered strong connections with families and the wider community.

At Pincushion Hill Montessori School, Catherine worked as Directress, Mentor, Assistant, and Intern, consistently upholding Montessori principles and creating nurturing, developmentally responsive learning environments. She guided interns, planned lessons, supported classroom management, and prioritized meaningful engagement with families.

Catherine also contributed to the New England Center for Children as both a Teacher and Medical Supervisor, supporting students’ independence, social-emotional growth, and well-being in group home settings.

Her expertise includes curriculum and assessment development, individualized learning strategies for diverse student needs, behavioral management, literacy specialization, and team leadership. With a foundation in psychology and a passion for inclusive, student-centered learning, Catherine is committed to partnering with parents to ensure every child thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.

Philosophy

Our school is rooted in a child-centered philosophy that honors each child as a capable, curious, and unique learner. We believe children thrive in environments that foster independence, respect, and a lifelong love of learning. Through hands-on exploration and purposeful guidance, we support the development of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Our classrooms are thoughtfully prepared to encourage curiosity, build confidence, and nurture a strong sense of community.
