Our Teachers

My name is Donna Rhoten (Miss. Donna) and I own and operate Donna’s Learning Center. I graduated from Wasilla High School in 1983 and attended 2 years of college after high school. In 2009 I started my academic career majoring in Early Childhood Development and in May 2014 I graduated from the College of Southern Idaho with an AA Degree in Early Childhood Education and in December 2016 I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Lewis-Clark State College. I am now taking Masters classes at Boise State University, majoring in Early and Special Education. I have been taking care of children since I was 11 years old and thoroughly enjoy children. I worked at Eagle Learning Center for 2 years before stepping out on my own and opening my own family childcare facility. I am the mother of a 25 year old daughter and a 31 year old son and the grandmother of a 5 year old and a 2 year old. I have always loved working with children. It is very satisfying to watch them learn and to be part of that process. Donna’s Learning Center has been in operation since Feb. 1995. I have earned a 4 Star rating through IdahoStars, a Step 3 Step to Quality, a Secondary Technical Certificate in ECE from CSI, a Child Development Accreditation, and a Child Specialist Certificate from The IDOL.

Philosophy

Where learning happens as a result of fun activities A play based program A home-like atmosphere That encourages independent play as well as socialization To reinforce the values of truth, respect, honor, and virtue Where the child feels happy and safe child developmental appropriate learning “Successful communities provide the environment for individuals to reach their full potential.” (David Massaro) It is our responsibility to provide that successful community.

Furthermore, I strive to be a “Caring Professional Who Teaches for Understanding in a Community of Learning”. (LCSC Education Department)

My philosophy of child care is to provide for the parents/guardians:

Honest and open communication about your child Up-to-date information about your child’s activities An attitude of teamwork in areas relating to your child’s development

Location

We are right off 1st and Main in Star, ID.

We have a backyard with rubber chips and with a log cement rebar where children can play on.

We also have two local parks that we attend on a regular basis along with library visits.

About our program

We have received substantial grants and awards from IdahoSTARS and the Terry Lynn Lokoff/Children’s Tylenol Foundation to improve the quality of our childcare facility.

It is my goal to provide your child with a fun and enriching early childhood development program operated in a home environment so that your child can thrive and feel safe, happy, loved, and respected with lots of one on one attention.

We teach Pre-K content along with life skills which allow the children to possess effective social, emotional, and physical skills. Our students learn to be self motivated and independent learners, which will benefit them throughout their lives. Miss. Donna builds strong relationships with her students and creates a safe environment where they can make mistakes, take chances, and feel supported.
