Laura has been working with kids for over 14 years. She started helping a friend taking care of a newborn. It sparked a joy in her that she had not expected. Soon, one newborn in her care turned into two and boomed into the program she runs today. Laura’s favorite part of her job is watching kids learn, grow, and develop.

Philosophy
Young children learn through play, observation, and repetitiveness. They will learn different abilities during the process of trial and error. By offering a variety of educational experiences for the children, they are able to expand their knowledge in cognitive, physical, academic, and social-emotional. I provide a flexible learning environment that appeals to the children’s interests and is developmentally appropriate for each age group. The children will thrive if the schedule is predictable. I try to maintain a regular schedule on a daily basis that helps the children feel safe and secure. The children are also allowed to choose activities for free play that they may be interested in.
As a facilitator, I can guide the children in their experiences rather than directing how or what they will learn. I encourage the children to expand their curiosity about new things and to build on the knowledge that they may already posses. I am here to educate them in all domains and to teach proper self-care routines. I teach them how to interact with others in a friendly manner. I teach them how to resolve issues. My role also includes teaching the children about good nutrition and providing healthy meals and snacks.
Beyond teaching self-care and preparing children for kindergarten, I also serve as a secondary provider for the parents. I am a source they can turn to when they have questions about their child’s development. I can supply resources for programs that help families in crisis or for strengthening families. I build positive/productive relationships with the families by openly communicating with them. I update each parent on a daily basis about their child’s accomplishments. Parents feel comfortable communicating with me about things that may be going on at home. I easily adapt to families changing needs and circumstances.
Location
We are conveniently centrally located between Coeur d Alene and Spokane, and Hayden. We are located in a rural area so the children have a lot more space to enjoy the outdoors without the worry of nearby traffic.
About our program
I believe that as a dedicated early learning professional I must be patient, understanding, and willing to meet a child where ever they may be in their developmental stage. I love children and have the desire to impact the child’s life. I strive to create an environment where the children feel safe and their parents are comfortable leaving their children with me while they are away.
Helping Hands Child Care specializes in infant and toddler care.
