Our Teachers

Kahiry Chagoya-Limon, Director

Kahiry is a dedicated early childhood educator with over a decade of experience creating inclusive, nurturing learning environments for young children. With a strong focus on equity and belonging, Kahiry ensures that every child feels seen, supported, and valued in their learning journey. Kahiry’s background in Early Childhood Education, shaped in part by her studies at Santa Monica College, informs a teaching approach that integrates social justice principles and neuroaffirming practices. Through training with the AMA ABAR Certification program, Kahiry continues to deepen a commitment to creating anti-bias, inclusive learning spaces. Committed to mutual aid and community-building, Kahiry believes in fostering strong connections as a means to create a more just and caring world. Outside of teaching, Kahiry enjoys tending to our school garden filled with California native plants, sewing, and embracing the beauty of slow, intentional creativity. Whether in the classroom or the community, Kahiry’s work is rooted in kindness, growth, and a deep respect for children as human beings.

Philosophy

At Mariposa School, we believe that early childhood education should be a joyful, inclusive, and empowering experience that nurtures the whole child. Grounded in child-led, play-based learning, we create an environment where children feel safe to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. Through meaningful experiences, we support their cognitive, social-emotional, and creative development, ensuring they build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

As dedicated members of NAEYC, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of Early Childhood Education. We honor each child’s unique identity and lived experiences, fostering a culturally responsive environment that reflects the diverse world around them. In our peaceful garden setting, we cultivate a deep sense of belonging, embracing each child’s individuality while encouraging collaboration, curiosity, and kindness.

By centering equity, inclusion, and respect, we strive to create a learning community where every child feels valued, empowered, and inspired to engage with the world in meaningful ways.

Location

Mariposa School is located in historical Old Torrance, within walking distance of both Wilson and Torrance Parks.

About our program

We are proud to offer a play-based garden preschool deeply rooted in community and belonging. Our students are surrounded by representation and materials that reflect an intentionally diverse community across race, socio-economic status, gender and ability. The Mariposa School has a 1:3 teacher-student ratio. We believe each child is a gift and we have the immense privilege to offer guidance as they learn to connect to nature and each other through the shared experience of preschool.
