Philosophy
At Mariposa School, we believe that early childhood education should be a joyful, inclusive, and empowering experience that nurtures the whole child. Grounded in child-led, play-based learning, we create an environment where children feel safe to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. Through meaningful experiences, we support their cognitive, social-emotional, and creative development, ensuring they build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
As dedicated members of NAEYC, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of Early Childhood Education. We honor each child’s unique identity and lived experiences, fostering a culturally responsive environment that reflects the diverse world around them. In our peaceful garden setting, we cultivate a deep sense of belonging, embracing each child’s individuality while encouraging collaboration, curiosity, and kindness.
By centering equity, inclusion, and respect, we strive to create a learning community where every child feels valued, empowered, and inspired to engage with the world in meaningful ways.

About our program
We are proud to offer a play-based garden preschool deeply rooted in community and belonging. Our students are surrounded by representation and materials that reflect an intentionally diverse community across race, socio-economic status, gender and ability. The Mariposa School has a 1:3 teacher-student ratio. We believe each child is a gift and we have the immense privilege to offer guidance as they learn to connect to nature and each other through the shared experience of preschool.
