Testimonials
The Parker school experience was awesome for our daughter as it built upon her innate curiosity, taught her how to manage her feelings and has given her an overall strong sense of calm, grounded confidence. The teachers and staff are highly educated and experienced, kind, empathetic and believe in power of play. Their approach to learning helped build a strong emotional foundation for our daughter and made for an easy transition from preschool into Kindergarten.
The space offers a mix of indoor and outdoor play in a classic red schoolhouse setting. In addition to the programs offered at Parker school, they also offer an incredible bus program which promotes learning outdoors in various spots around the Bay. Our daughter now knows more about the city parks than we do. We also appreciated the option for late care and it was another program that complemented our family scheduling needs.
We highly recommend Parker School! It’s a truly special place for learning, playing, loving and growing.
Our family has been a part of the One Fifty Parker Avenue School community since 2015 when our eldest entered the 3-year-olds’ program and were lucky enough to have a second child so that we could stick around for a few more years. The teachers are incredible in their level of experience, their intense commitment to supporting the children and their enthusiasm around continued professional development. We visibly could see our children’s growth in self-confidence, resiliency, independence and empathy over their preschool years, a result of the teaching staff both being responsive to their needs as children and also providing the space to allow for the children to recognize their own capabilities and knowing when to give them a little push to challenge them. The families we met at Parker are still some of our best friends; though our daughter is now heading into middle school, when she sees her old Parker buddies, it’s like no time was lost, and their time together is all smiles and giggles. Preschool seems like such a quick blip on the radar in a person’s lifetime, but the experience truly can set them up for success down the road. We are so grateful to Parker School and all of the incredible teachers, families and children we have been so fortunate to know during our time there.
We LOVE the Parker School. It is such a magical, small, personalized spot. The Little Red School Bus is a differentiator vs. other top preschools. It totally changed the trajectory of my son’s development for the better. The teachers are incredible and they so clearly CARE not just about our kids but the parent community. We can’t imagine having sent our kids anywhere else.
Philosophy
One Fifty Parker Avenue School is a small, homelike setting where children explore freely, spread their wings, and discover who they are, as well as what it means to be a part of a larger community.
We believe children learn best and make sense of the world around them when given time to play. Our teachers are skilled play facilitators, guiding children through their social interactions and peer relationships to help build their sense of self, communication and collaboration skills, and sense of belonging within a community. Our curriculum is grounded in social-emotional development and by the end of their time at Parker School, children have learned how to express themselves, their ideas, and their feelings and how to understand and respond to that of others. We strive to create a safe and inclusive environment where each individual child is known and celebrated for who they are.
Location
Our “little red schoolhouse” with its spacious yard is located in a charming old building tucked in the Laurel Heights neighborhood. We are right off Geary and close to Laurel Village.
