Our Teachers

Hello! I am Yesenia Sosa, the founder of Yesenia’s Wonderschool. I have 16 years of experience working with young children. I am a self taught artist and muralist. I enjoy painting, cooking and experimenting with materials alongside the children. I believe in the healing powers of the arts. When children express themselves with me I find they simply feel better about themselves. That is what I love most about teaching!

Philosophy

At Children’s First Steps Wonderschool, children absorb the positive environment around them and role model after their caring, artistic teachers. Before children learn anything, we feel they must learn to be loved, express themselves, and feel confident. We are influenced by the schools in Reggio Emilia and believe in the importance of small group projects. We think creativity and collaboration are the keys to brighter futures. We encourage social-emotional growth, collaboration, and teaching children how to understand themselves and each other.

Location

Children’s First Steps Wonderschool is located in a bright, spacious single family home in the Sylmar neighborhood. From the moment children walk in they will see a garden in the front yard, art and murals on the walls and images of themselves and their art in the classrooms.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include art area (for expressing emotions and ideas), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving).

Children will have some outdoor time everyday at mix of both my private yard and local parks and playgrounds. Connecting with nature is vital to a child’s happiness and growth.

At Children’s First Steps Wonderschool, I want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.
