Our Teachers
My name is Joanna Martinez, and I am the Director of Joanna’s Bilingual Wonderschool. I opened my program in 2014, inspired by a lifelong passion for working with kids. I have completed 27 Early Care and Education Units. My favorite class focused on how arts and crafts can support children with disabilities and opened my eyes to the power of creativity. I look forward to meeting you and your child!
Philosophy
Joanna’s Bilingual Wonderschool is a play-based program, inspired by the power of imagination! Play is a critical part of children’s development — and just plain fun. When children are given the space to interact with each other and truly create in an environment that was set up with them in mind, then they naturally learn, grow, and find themselves. As a program that encourages children to speak in English and Spanish, don’t be surprised to see children moving through their play in both dialects as they interact with materials and one another.
Location
Our program is located in near 101 HWY and Monterey Rd in a single-family home. The childcare space is nice and cozy where child can learn and play. Our backyard is fenced in and covered, allowing for daily time outdoors regardless of the weather.
About our program
At Joanna’s Bilingual Wonderschool, we believe in the power of play. Each learning unit is thoughtfully designed, grounded in a fun and relevant theme while also allowing ample time for students to explore their own interests. I have found that this structured but flexible approach helps my students to dig deep into each topic, while also encouraging their own curiosity and creativity.
My teaching style is very hands-on, and I take part in children’s playtime and dance alongside them during circle time. Education can and should be a warm and welcoming experience for children.
Families in my program should also be prepared for an open, and highly-communicative relationship. Getting to know one another is the best way to support the child through this exciting and formative time of life.
Students will interact with me and with each other in English and Spanish. I am fully bilingual and able to provide students with a chance to develop a rich vocabulary regardless of what language they speak at home.
