Reyna is amazing! So welcoming and caring. I’ve seen great verbal progress and manners from my 1 1/2 yr old daughter. She loves being there.

Testimonials

“The coziest, most loving family child care home you’ll find in the area! The owner, Reyna Abarca, is caring, patient and offers appropriate activities for your little ones! She will always have the environment ready and intentional, and you will love what Roots family child care home has to offer! Highly recommended, if you’re looking for a quality child care home where your children further their development, look no more! This is the place! P.S. Reyna is fluent in Spanish and English!” - Silvia

“Reyna is absolutely amazing. She excels at what she does in child development. She started as our Developmental Therapist to our son at 16 months, and because of her methods and seeing our son excel, we requested to have her be our other sons (6m) therapist. Now seeing her have her own daycare center is just amazing. Knowing that my children are in her care, and seeing how great she is with them, I have no doubt that they are in amazing hands. Her daycare center is a great place for them to play and learn.” - Michael

Philosophy

Roots Family Child Care believes every child deserves an opportunity to explore in a secure and healthy environment. Young children learn best through play and exploration of their surroundings. As adults, we have a great responsibility of guiding young children to their success in life. Children are a small percentage of our population but are one hundred percent of our future and deserve to be treated with love and respect. We believe in meeting each child’s individual needs and interest. Family members are the most significant adults in a child’s life; therefore, we are committed to building a reciprocal relationship with the families who will entrust their children to us. As care providers, we will guide, care, and educate children using developmentally appropriate practices. We believe in enhancing children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical abilities so that they will develop a healthy sense of identity and self-esteem.

Mission Statement

Roots Family Child Care mission is to provide quality care and education to all children in our program through developmentally appropriate practices. Children are action oriented and learn by hands on experiences; therefore, our program is design to develop and integrate the five selves: social, emotional, cognitive, creative, and physical. Our open-ended activities will provoke children to explore and discover endless possibilities and questions. Our goal is to provide daily opportunities to develop self-confidence, autonomy, initiative, and cooperative relationships. Our mission will always be the well-being of the child, a curious human being trying to understand how this world works, and functions. In addition, our mission is to develop a partnership with each family as we both work together to support each child’s healthy development.

Location

Roots Family Childcare Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, cozy home in the Arleta neighborhood.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), manipulatives and math area (for fine motor skills and beginning math concepts), and reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite).

Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard or outdoor space. Connecting with nature is vital to a child’s happiness and growth.

At Roots Family Childcare Wonderschool, I want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.

About our program

Roots Family Child Care curriculum approach is play based. Play reveals children’s ideas, theories, and skills. Children are often presented with problems, explore solutions, and develop an understanding of real world concepts and functions. By comparing and contrasting information gained from each new experience to what they already know, they are actively constructing their knowledge of the way the world works. The teacher will observe and listen to the children closely as they interact with peers and the environment in order to design and implement a balanced developmentally appropriate and flexible lesson plan that will include all children’s interest and needs. Our lesson plan includes a balance of self-directed and teacher-directed activities. Our activities will promote and encourage children’s social-emotional development, brain development, language and physical development.
