Our Teachers

Hello! I am Tonia, the founder of Learn and Play. I was inspired to start my own program because it has always been my dream to design my own space where children can blossom and grow. I have 22 years of experience working with young children.

I work with my assistant, Emma, who has worked with me for over 3 years. She has a background in education and past experience working with children.

Philosophy

Learn & Play Wonderschool is a play-based, child-centered home child care program with a focus on nature and outdoor time. We believe outdoor time is essential in helping children grow and develop to their full potential. We have been serving the Antelope community for 22 years and are thrilled to welcome new families to our program!

We also prepare our children for kindergarten with a preschool curriculum that promotes school-readiness.

Location

Learn & Play Wonderschool is located in a family-friendly neighborhood in Antelope. We are right off the 80, near the 180 and Greenback. Antelope Road is nearby, from which you can go straight downtown and to Natomas.

We are proud of our fully outdoor classroom, complete with a climbing wall, play structure, swing set, sandbox, and lots of shaded areas. It is important that children get lots of time outside every day to promote physical health and cognitive development.

About our program

Learn & Play Wonderschool is a child-centered program, meaning we allow the children’s interests and curiosities to guide our activities. We have structured activities as well throughout the day, including circle time, sensory play, and learning letters, numbers, and shapes. We are loving and nurturing with the kids, and always have an open ear to listen and support parents.

We also have a preschool curriculum to ensure that our children are school-ready!

We also have two loving and playful cats in our home.

Outside time

In today’s society, children are not getting enough time outdoors. Spending time outside in nature not only helps children develop an appreciation for the natural environment and world around them, but also contributes to more exercise, increased focus, a reduction in obesity rates, and less stress, amongst other benefits.

We have a rich outdoor play environment for the kids to explore every day. We love to see them feeling free and getting their energy out in a healthy and fun way.

Meals

We offer delicious and wholesome meals each day. Some ingredients we like to use include vegetables, fresh fruits, chicken, and bread. We offer whole milk for our children under 2 and 1% milk for those 2 and over.

We accommodate any food allergies and are a part of the Love Little Children Food Program, which offers reimbursement for healthy meals for children in licensed child cares.

3. Submit an Enrollment Application

If you would like to enroll, please submit an application at www.wonderschool.com/learn-play-wonderschool-4015/apply – Please note that we require tours for all prospective families. Please do not submit an application if you have not visited the program.

4. Enroll

After reviewing your application, we’ll send an enrollment invitation. Upon accepting your invitation you’ll pay your enrollment fee, fill out enrollment documents and review our Parent Handbook.
