Betsy Davis, Director

Betsy graduated from Nicholls State University with a bachelor’s in journalism from Thibodaux, Louisiana. She moved to Ocean Springs in 2018 with her daughter where she soon fell in love with the community and working in childcare. Since then, she’s earned her CDA while teaching preschool and is now the director of a wonderful little preschool that has been a staple in the community for decades. She works with a dedicated and compassionate team that helps to ensure every child in their care has the best possible start in their developmental years.

Filosofía

Our program is designed to meet the developmental, educational and social needs of children ages three to five. Here, we have weekly visits from our local librarian, holiday programs and yearly fieldtrips all while teaching kindergarten readiness and fostering the growth and development of each child in our care through fun and engaging lessons.

Ubicación

We are located in the charming little town of Ocean Springs, directly off HWY 90 and inside of the Christus Victor Lutheran Church building. Our playground faces a peaceful, wooded neighborhood, and we are about two and a half miles and less from the beach, the library and local elementary schools.

At Christus Victor Lutheran Church Preschool in Ocean Springs, children thrive with our hands-on approach to learning. Our dedicated teachers foster school readiness and social development in a caring environment. With age-integrated groups, every child receives individualized attention for a truly enriching experience.

Ritmo del día

  • 8:00
    Arrival and Morning Routine--Students come inside, put belongings away, check for their helper job on the chart, grab their carpet square and sit on the big blue carpet with a book they've picked form the basket and their friends.

    Music--Once everyone arrives, we have our morning dance party! Music time is filled with songs, rhymes and use of gross motor skills.

    Roll Call--Each student's first and last name is called to report that they're here for a day of fun!
  • 8:35
    Circle Time-- We start with the calendar, reviewing the day, month, year and season. Then, we go over our number of the week, counting it out on our fingers and hands and discussing the numeral and the word. From there, we do our letter of the week, talk about the pictures that correspond with it, and the sight word. We talk about the weather outside that day, discuss our shape of the week and then our color. For each of these, we have different students come up and lead the class. These are their helper jobs.

    Theme-- We talk about our theme of the week and what we will be learning that day. The teacher will sometimes use the interactive board to bring up videos, sounds or illustrations, and the students have a chance to talk about what they already know about the subject or ask any questions they might have.
  • 9:00
    Center--Students pick a center they want to work in with a friend or independently. They change centers as they wish. Our centers are art, blocks, science, manipulatives, library, math, practical life, computer and sand. New themed activities are added to each center every week. Skills and concepts students are learning during centers are literacy, math, science, art, fine motor and social and emotional skills.
  • 9:00-10:15
    Small Group--At different points during center time, students will work with the teacher in a small group to learn various literacy, math or science skills and concepts. New games and activities are introduced at this time to ensure student success. The groups are always changing based on students' abilities, interests or random selection.
  • 10:15
    Transition and Story Time--Students come together on the big blue rug and sit as the teacher reads them a story, a rhyme or teaches them a song. (Usually all three)
  • 10:30
    Lunch--We wash hands and the students grab their lunches and sit at the tables for family style dining.
  • 10:50
    Clean up and Transition--Students pick up their belongings, use the restroom and get ready for outside time.
  • 11:00
    Outside/Gross Motor--Students enjoy recess while they practice and develop various gross motor skills, problem solving skills, navigate social interactions and just having fun.
  • 12:00
    Dismissal--While parents come for check out, we look at books on the big blue carpet and talk with our friends.
