Meet the Director – Clarivel Martinez

Clarivel Martinez is the founder and director of Tata’s Day Care, a bilingual childcare program in Grand Rapids, Michigan, dedicated to providing high-quality, loving care where children learn through play and families feel supported. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Clarivel began her journey in early childhood education as an assistant teacher and, driven by her passion and commitment, opened her licensed home daycare in 2022. In 2026, she expanded her vision by opening Tata’s Day Care Center to serve more families in the community. She brings strong experience in childcare, along with training in child development and ongoing professional education, combining her knowledge with a heartfelt, family-centered approach.

Inspired by her mother, a lifelong teacher known as “Tata,” Clarivel built her program on the belief that love is the foundation of learning. As a mother of five, she understands the importance of trust, safety, and communication in childcare. Her program focuses on creating a nurturing, inclusive, and bilingual (English/Spanish) environment where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. Clarivel is deeply committed to supporting each child’s development while building strong relationships with families and making a positive impact in the community.

Tata’s Day Care Center is conveniently located on Cesar E. Chavez Ave SW in the Roosevelt Park area of Grand Rapids—just minutes from Downtown Grand Rapids, making it an ideal location for busy, working families.

Our center is located near key community resources, including Clinica Santa Maria, and the Cook Arts Center.

In addition, we are close to local schools such as Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School and Southwest Community Campus, providing a strong educational pathway for children as they grow.

The area is also well connected by The Rapid, making transportation convenient and accessible for families across the city.

At Tata’s Day Care Center is a warm, nurturing, and high-quality early childhood program located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We provide care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in a safe, loving, and engaging environment where learning happens through play. Our bilingual program (English and Spanish) supports language development and cultural diversity. We offer developmentally appropriate activities that encourage creativity, independence, and social growth.
