Filosofía
At Kintsugi Village, we believe early childhood is a time for nurturing young minds and hearts. Our mission of compassion, unity, and purpose has led us to the beauty of the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
The Reggio Emilia philosophy centers around the core beliefs that children are capable, curious and active learners, which empowers them to thrive academically, emotionally and socially as they grow. Learning is hands-on and project-based; with the environment nourished and curated as a “third teacher.”
When we trust that children are capable, they develop socio-emotional skills crucial to personal and academic success later on, such as cooperation, conflict resolution, empathy and communication. Academic skills such as self-regulation, attention, self-discipline, working memory, pre-math, pre-literacy all thrive in a hands-on, child-led, active learning environment.
Ubicación
Kintsugi Village is located in historic Corktown, one of Detroit’s oldest and most beloved neighborhoods. Our building—formerly St. Vincent’s Middle School—has long been a place of learning and community gathering, and we’re proud to continue that legacy in a space filled with character and history.
We’re just minutes from downtown Detroit and surrounded by locally loved restaurants, small businesses, parks, and cultural spaces. The neighborhood is also home to the beautifully restored Michigan Central Station, which has been transformed into a hub for innovation and community by Ford Motor Company—a powerful symbol of Detroit’s renewal and future-focused energy.
At Kintsugi Village, families get the best of both worlds: a peaceful, welcoming campus rooted in history, and a dynamic neighborhood that reflects Detroit’s creativity, resilience, and growth.
Acerca de nuestro programa
Kintsugi Village School is an early childhood education program for children ages 3–5 located within Kintsugi Village, a community-centered campus in Detroit’s historic Corktown neighborhood. Rooted in the internationally respected Reggio Emilia philosophy, the school views children as capable, curious, and active learners. Its curriculum emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning guided by children’s interests, encouraging exploration, creativity, and social-emotional growth. Learning environments are thoughtfully designed as a “third teacher,” blending indoor and outdoor spaces where children engage with natural materials, art, community, and meaningful relationships. As part of the larger Kintsugi Village ecosystem—which includes artist studios, a culinary kitchen, and community programming—the school nurtures each child’s sense of wonder while supporting holistic development academically, emotionally, and socially.
