My name is Petrina. My family and friends call me “Trina,” my children call me “Ma,” and my daycare children call me “Nina.” I have two children, one stepdaughter, three grandsons, one nephew, two nieces, 5 Godchildren, and many other children who call me “Aunt Trina or God-Mother.” I have a love for all children and have a special affection for children who have been identified as having “Autism.” As a mother with an adult son and grandson with Autism, I understand the importance of early interventions and early childhood development. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading books, and attending church. I Love Butterflies.
I am an Early Childhood Educator with over 20 years of experience in the field. My love and passion for being an ECE started at a young age. I’ve gained experience volunteering at my aunt, grandmother, and mother’s family daycare, typing correspondences and communications, setting up the children’s files, participating in group activities, and going on field trips. I’ve also worked in a Head Start program and at licensed centers.
At my previous employer, Progressive Education Center, Inc. (08/2010 – 04/2013), I was Director for 40 children or less. Since resigning from Progressive Education Center, Inc., I have been the owner and director of Hearts A Flutter Daycare, which has a full license and total capacity as a family daycare issued on 05/23/2013. Hearts A Flutter Daycare achieved National Association for Family Child Care awards Accreditation for Family Child Care, Level 5 with Maryland Excels and Level 5+ with Maryland Childcare Credential.

Hearts A Flutter Daycare’s philosophy is based on my belief that children have the drive to be self-confident individuals seeking an understanding of the world surrounding them. We aim to provide all children with a safe environment that builds self-esteem and empowers them by creating an atmosphere where social, physical, cognitive, and emotional development can occur. This goal is met by providing an array of activities and an experience that allows the child to pretend, discover, and learn to be self-sufficient. We’ve learned that when you understand how children think and behave at different ages. You will know how to guide and motivate them and provide them with an optimum learning environment and experiences. We believe that understanding a child’s development will also improve confidence in the classroom and will enable me to adjust my programs to the individual needs of each child in my classroom. Planning is truly one of the most important jobs of a teacher. It also helps us feel prepared and in control of the class’s direction. It also allows us to establish a relationship between the parent and child. I would nurture, comfort, and protect their children to ensure their trust in me. We believe in the uniqueness of each child. “Every child can learn, just not on the same day or at the same time” (George Evans). A developmentally appropriate program focusing on learning, cultural diversity, exploration, and play allows the child to grow and learn. Together, we will learn something new each day.
