Carrie Justice, Executive Director

Knowing that I’m a small part of the village it takes to raise a child is the most rewarding feeling. The next best feeling is the connections I make with children, their families, my co-workers, and the Lafayette community.

My early childhood education journey began in 2000 when I worked as a preschool teacher, started my own home childcare that eventually became licensed, and served as a director before making Just Us Kids my home in 2011.

Carrie Justice began her career in childcare in February 2000 and has extensive experience working with children of all age groups. She holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education. Carrie is passionate about creating a nurturing and supportive environment where each child can thrive. She believes that building strong relationships with both children and their families, along with maintaining small class sizes, allows her to understand each child as an individual and provide a solid foundation for their growth and development.

When I’m not making memories at JUK, I love playing with my two Labrador retrievers, hosting family game nights, going on camping trips, and taking motorcycle trips with my husband. Random fun fact — I would love to take ballroom dance classes!

Melanie Markle, Director

Melanie began her career in childcare in June 2009 and has experience working with children of all age groups. Now as Director at Just Us Kids, she enjoys supporting not just one classroom, but several, caring for over 200 children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old!

She dreamed of being a teacher ever since she was a little girl. Her passion for children grew while babysitting, which eventually inspired her to pursue a career in early childhood education. Melanie holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education and is deeply committed to building meaningful relationships with the children she teaches and their families. She believes that small group sizes and a strong sense of community allow her to truly know each child as an individual and provide a solid, supportive foundation during their early years.

When she’s not planning a Disney trip, Melanie enjoys spending time with her two kids and all their four-legged friends — a Labrador Retriever and a cat! Out of all the animals in the world, penguins are her favorite.
